Calculating the CTB

Updated over 3 weeks ago

To calculate the CTB, the certifying entity will multiple their total cradle-to-customer emissions times the internal carbon fee (currently $15/tonne for the 2026 Certification Year). The result is the Climate Transition Budget. This is the minimum amount of funding for climate projects that you must demonstrate in order to certify.

Keep in mind that the Certification Standard specifies how the CTB may be allocated across different types of projects. See this article for more details.

If you do not yet have a complete GHG inventory for the Emissions Year, we recommend estimating your total emissions based on a prior year of measurement and projected growth in your business and/or emissions reductions you expect to realize.

Once your measurement is approved for certification, the BEE will display your minimum CTB and allow you to document your VCA, BVC, and OC projects.
