If your water stops, you will need to conserve any water you may already have and you must contact your water supplier immediately.

If your water is discoloured, most commonly it’s not harmful, but it is recommended that you don’t drink or use the water until the problem has been fixed. When you first notice your water is discoloured, run the cold water tap in your kitchen (the master tap) for a few minutes to flush out anything that may be causing the discolouration. If after a few minutes the colour of your water has not returned, you will need to contact your water supplier directly to make them aware of the issue and see whether there are any known issues in the area that may be causing it.

If discoloration continues, you will need to contact a plumber to investigate your home plumbing system to investigate whether this is where the issue is. If you are a renter, you must contact your letting agent or landlord to make them aware of the issue and for them to arrange a plumber.
