What is Achilles Tendinopathy?

Achilles Tendinopathy is a condition that affects the Achilles tendon, which is the largest and thickest tendon in the human body. It is characterized by pain and discomfort in the Achilles area and can be classified into two types: insertional Achilles tendinopathy and mid-portion Achilles tendinopathy.

What causes Achilles Tendinopathy?

Achilles Tendinopathy usually occurs due to an increase in load or volume of training, leading to a rapid increase in intensity of movement. Other factors that contribute to Achilles Tendinopathy include movement quality, chronic changes in the structure of the Achilles, abnormalities or changes in the foot, footwear, and metabolic conditions.

What should I do to resolve Achilles Tendinopathy?

The first step to resolving Achilles Tendinopathy is to calm it down and build it back up. This involves relative rest, slowing things down, and gradually building up load. Other key factors in resolving Achilles Tendinopathy include working on mobility and strength and gradual loading.
