WHAT WOULD A TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE?
The overall structure is designed to balance:
Performance development
Sustainable volume
Recovery quality
Long-term adaptation
Exposure to authentic Kenyan endurance culture
Early Morning
Running drills, mobility, and activation work led by a Kenyan running coach.
Aerobic running session in groups with local pacers and coaches.
Sessions are organized according to: level, goals, adaptation and current fitness
Post-Session: Breakfast on-site followed by recovery time.
Late Morning
Depending on the day:
Hybrid / gym-based conditioning session, or
Recovery-focused work, mobility, or lighter aerobic training
Afternoon
Free time for: recovery, naps, stretching, mobility work, massage, social interaction and enjoying the environment and slower rhythm of life in Eldoret.
Mid-Afternoon (~4 PM)
Specific running-focused session, such as: Track intervals, Speed development, Technique work and Threshold running
On days with Hybrid training sessions, the afternoon run becomes a very easy aerobic recovery session instead.
All the sessions are optional and can be adapted.
WHAT ARE THE ACCOMMODATIONS LIKE?
The accommodations are comfortable, practical, and highly suitable for the purpose of an elite-level training camp. While this is not a luxury hotel, it is specifically designed for optimal recovery, sleep, and training.
Athletes should expect:
Clean, spacious rooms with private bathrooms and balconies.
On-site training facilities, including a basic conditioning gym at the center and a
running track inside the premises.
Comfortable beds, hot running water, and washing machines.
A safe, athlete-focused living environment.
You can choose to book a room with a friend or allow our organization to handle room sharing and athlete matching. Our objective is to create a community-oriented environment tailored for performance.
WHO WILL BE THE COACHES?
The camp is led by Tiago Lousa, an elite HYROX athlete, coach to multiple elite
performers, and founder of The Lousa Way and Alphaden Training Center. Tiago brings extensive coaching experience across all levels, from beginners to competitive age-group athletes. He has also previously coached in Kenya, including at this same training center, where he has built meaningful relationships with local coaches, runners, and staff.
The coaching staff also includes:
2 experienced International HYROX coaches/athletes from the TLW / Alphaden
structure. Local Kenyan running coaches and pacers, with whom we have established strong relationships.
HYROX elite athlete participation may vary depending on the competition calendar and race schedule (hard to tell before the Majors being officialy announced).
The goal is to help each athlete evolve according to their personal level, reality, and goals.
WHY IS THIS CAMP DIFFERENT?
The Rift Valley offers a plateau environment perfect for endurance work - highly runnable, practical, and sustainable. The weather is stable year-round, featuring cool mornings and moderate temperatures, creating low environmental stress for athletes.
Above all, the culture sets this camp apart. In Kenya, running is not a trend or social media content; it is an intrinsic part of daily life. The immersion into this pure endurance culture is unmatched globally.
IS THIS A HYROX CAMP?
No, this is primarily a running and endurance-development camp, designed as a true performance-immersion experience.
We will certainly incorporate hybrid sessions, strength work, conditioning, and HYROX- specific elements (utilizing our on-site basic conditioning gym), but these serve as complementary tools to build robust aerobic endurance. If your sole focus is HYROX simulations and compromised workouts, our Lisbon or Marbella camps are likely a better fit.
IS THERE A MINIMUM FITNESS REQUIREMENT?
Yes. As a minimum requirement, participants should be able to complete a 10K run in 60 minutes or less and be used to run 35+ weekly kms.
To support your preparation, all pre-registered athletes will receive a 15-week training plan designed to build a solid fitness baseline and help you get the most out of the camp experience.
HOW DO FLIGHTS & TRANSFERS WORK?
Athletes must book their own flights to Eldoret Airport via Nairobi. You are responsible for your travel documents, visas, and travel insurance.
However, from the moment you land in Eldoret until the moment you take off to return home, we take care of absolutely everything locally. This includes airport pickup, daily transportation, local logistics, camp coordination, and operational support.
HEALTH, HYGIENE & MEDICAL RECOMMENDATIONS
The camp takes place in a high-altitude area in Iten with excellent hygiene and
environmental conditions. Due to the altitude and local climate, diseases such as malaria are not considered a major concern in this specific region.
We strongly advise all athletes to:
Schedule a travel medicine appointment before traveling.
Discuss vaccination and medication recommendations with a doctor.
Ensure you are medically cleared for high-altitude endurance training and
international travel.
Is there drinkable water? Yes. Safe, drinkable water is always available on-site.
Hydration is taken very seriously in our daily camp structure.
VISAS & TRAVEL DOCUMENTATION
Visa requirements vary by nationality. Each athlete is personally responsible for checking visa requirements, ensuring passport validity (usually at least 6 months beyond the date of entry), and preparing all necessary documentation. Travel insurance covering international sports activities is strongly recommended.
WHAT LANGUAGES ARE AVAILABLE?
Camp communication and support are available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
WILL WE TRAIN WITH KENYAN ATHLETES?
Yes. Every single day. You will have daily integration and exposure to local Kenyan runners, pacers, and coaches, offering a firsthand look into a true endurance mindset.
WHAT CAN BE MY PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES?
Improved aerobic efficiency
Better pacing and control
Stronger HYROX-specific endurance
Clear race execution strategy
Performance transfer into competition
IS THE SAFARI INCLUDED?
The Safari Experience is optional and costs €180. It takes place during our mid-camp recovery and rest day. It is highly recommended as one of the most memorable highlights outside of the training itself.
CAMP PHILOSOPHY
This is much more than a training block. This is a life-changing experience and a reality check. It provides a unique perspective on how much greatness can be achieved with simplicity.
Our goal is not just to create a short-term fitness peak. The true goal is meaningful adaptation, meaningful shared suffering, and long-term performance transfer. When you leave this camp, your mindset will permanently shift.
