Where endurance meets performance, and simplicity beats complexity.

Written by Tiago Lousa

The Experience

Nine days based in the Rift Valley (Iten / Eldoret area, ~2,400m altitude) - the heart of Kenya's elite distance-running culture. This is a hybrid running camp: a genuine aerobic and running-economy foundation built at altitude, combined with structured hybrid/HYROX-specific conditioning and daily exposure to authentic Kenyan training culture.

9 nights

We have a second date in mind and will open it only if Camp 1 reaches 25 or more registrations. For now, all registration is for Camp 1. Group size is capped at 31 athletes per camp to keep the experience personal.

  • You will be responsible for booking your own flights to Eldoret (ELD) via Nairobi - you're also responsible for your travel documents, visas, and travel insurance.

A Typical Day

Structure is designed to balance performance development, sustainable volume, recovery quality, long-term adaptation, and exposure to authentic Kenyan endurance culture. All sessions are optional and can be adapted to you.

Early Morning

  • Running drills, mobility, and activation work led by a Kenyan running coach

  • Aerobic running session in groups with local pacers and coaches, organized by level, goals, adaptation, and current fitness

  • Breakfast on-site, followed by recovery time

Late Morning

  • Hybrid / gym-based conditioning session, or

  • Recovery-focused work, mobility, or lighter aerobic training

Afternoon

Free time - recovery, naps, stretching, mobility work, massage, social time, and the slower rhythm of life in the Rift Valley.

Mid-Afternoon (~4pm)

  • A specific running-focused session: track intervals, speed development, technique work, or threshold running

  • On days with a hybrid session, the afternoon run becomes a very easy aerobic recovery session instead

Some days may have one session, while others might have two or even three, but all are optional! You can always choose to sleep more or rest. No one will judge you for that!

Accommodation

Comfortable, practical, and built for the purpose of an elite-level training camp — this isn't a luxury hotel, it's designed for optimal recovery, sleep, and training.

  • Clean, spacious rooms with private bathrooms and balconies

  • On-site training facilities, including a conditioning gym and a running track on the premises

  • Comfortable beds, hot running water, and washing machines

  • A safe, athlete-focused living environment

  • Book with a friend, or let us handle room sharing and athlete matching; we aim for a community-oriented environment

Coaching Team

The camp is led by Tiago Lousa, an elite HYROX athlete, coach to multiple elite performers, and founder of The Lousa Way and Alphaden Training Center. Tiago has previously coached in Kenya at this same training center, and has built meaningful relationships with local coaches, runners, and staff.

  • 2 experienced international HYROX coaches/athletes from the TLW / Alphaden structure

  • Local Kenyan running coaches and pacers, with strong established relationships

Elite HYROX athlete participation may vary depending on the competition calendar - hard to confirm before all the "Majors", now Elite Series Races are officially announced. The goal, always, is to help each athlete evolve according to their own level, reality, and goals.

Why This Camp Is Different

The Rift Valley offers a plateau environment perfect for endurance work - highly runnable, practical, and sustainable, with stable year-round weather (cool mornings, moderate temperatures, low environmental stress).

Above all, it's the culture that sets this camp apart. In Kenya, running isn't a trend or social media content - it's an intrinsic part of daily life. You'll train alongside Kenyan runners, pacers, and coaches every single day, offering a firsthand look into a true endurance mindset.

Performance Outcomes

  • Improved aerobic efficiency

  • Better pacing and control

  • Stronger HYROX-specific endurance

  • Clear race execution strategy

  • Performance transfer into competition

Health, Visas & Documentation

  • The camp takes place in a high-altitude area with excellent hygiene and environmental conditions; malaria is not considered a major concern in this specific region

  • Schedule a travel medicine appointment before traveling, and discuss vaccination and medication recommendations with a doctor

  • Ensure you're medically cleared for high-altitude endurance training and international travel

  • Safe, drinkable water is always available on-site - hydration is taken seriously in the daily camp structure

  • Visa requirements vary by nationality - you're responsible for checking requirements, and for passport validity (usually 6+ months beyond entry date)

  • Travel insurance covering international sports activities is strongly recommended

  • Camp communication and support are available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese

Safari Day (Optional)

An optional full-day safari experience: €180, takes place during the mid-camp recovery and rest day. It's not included in the base camp price, but it's highly recommended as one of the most memorable highlights outside of training itself.

Registration & Minimum Numbers

Camp 1 (16–24 January 2027) is open for registration now. We have a second date in mind and will only open it once Camp 1 has 25 confirmed registrations.

For Camp 1 to go ahead at all, we need 20 confirmed pre-registrations by 1 September 2026. This threshold is what allows us to commit to Complete Sports and cover costs responsibly — it's a hard requirement, not a target.

IMPORTANT: Please do not book flights, request time off, or make any other travel arrangements until we've confirmed the minimum of 20 registrations has been reached. We will notify everyone directly as soon as that happens.

Full Camp Pricing

Price depends on when you register: the earlier you commit, the better the rate. This is the total package price (accommodation, meals, training program, gym access, local logistics, etc The optional safari day (€180) is not included in any tier.
