You will be asked to choose Display Name and Username when you want to join a conversation on The Mighty.

A Display Name is how you want to be known to the community. It can be different from your real name. It is often consisted of a first name and potentially last name.

A Username is a name unique to you, and it is how the community can reference you specifically in their conversations, similar to Twitter or Instagram. It can only be consisted of letters, numbers, and underscores. No spaces or punctuation are allowed. Your username is also used as part of the link address to your personal profile on The Mighty.

Customizing your Display Name and Username

Your Display Name and Username can be updated at any time. For information on how to update your Display Name or Username, see: How do I update my Display Name or Username?

Inappropriate names

We reserve the right to remove accounts if the usernames or display names violate the rules of our community policy.

Names will be rejected if they include an email address, URL, anything that can be considered triggering to others, as well as any names that use profanity or deemed inappropriate by our staff.

The accounts can be suspended or the comments for these accounts will be denied or hidden from public view until the username and display name is changed.
