While ThinkReservations currently supports ThinkPayments and Heartland Payments for integrated EMV transactions, businesses using other payment processors can still benefit from adopting EMV technology for in-person transactions. EMV transactions offer enhanced security and protection against fraud, making them a valuable addition to any payment processing setup.
The EMV device will be provided by your payment processor. Work with your existing processor to inquire about a chip reader or "EMV" terminal. Once you have an EMV terminal connected and set up with a processor, you can start collecting in-person payments from your guests. Post those payments in ThinkReservations to update the bill. Here's how:
1. Review Reservation Details:
Open the reservation or bill in ThinkReservations. Review the reservation to help determine how much you need to charge the guest. Note the remaining balance on the top right.
2. Process Payment with EMV device:
On the EMV device, enter the amount you need to charge the guest. Confirm the numbers entered. Insert or tap the guest's card, or ask them to do so for you. Complete the transaction following the prompts on the device.
3. Record payment in ThinkReservations:
Click the green Payment button and change the TYPE to "Third Party Credit Card Processor". (The AMOUNT box will automatically populate with the balance.) Optionally enter a transaction ID in the REFERENCE NUMBER box and click the Take Payment button.
That's it! Now your reservation has a record under Payments that shows the guest paid, how much they paid, and when. If you entered a reference number, it will be included there as well.
Leverage ThinkReservations' reporting features to reconcile manually-posted payments against reports from your EMV device, ensuring accurate financial records and seamless guest transactions. Use the Payments by Type report in ThinkReservations, which includes the reference number for your convenience.
