Prepare your client information, space, equipment and internet connection before each coaching session. Taking a few moments to prepare yourself can also help you feel calm, focused and present.
Review the client information
Before the session, review any information available to you, including:
the client brief;
notes from previous sessions;
agreed goals and actions;
previous feedback or updates;
the focus of the upcoming session.
This helps you reconnect with the client’s context and continue the coaching conversation without asking them to repeat information unnecessarily.
Only use information that is available through the appropriate Thrive systems and keep all client information confidential.
Prepare your space
Make sure you:
have a quiet and private place to coach;
will not be interrupted;
use good lighting so the client can see you clearly;
position your camera at eye level;
use a neutral or distraction-free background where possible;
have a pen and paper available for notes;
keep a drink of water within reach.
Avoid sitting with a bright window or light directly behind you, as this can make your face difficult to see.
Prepare your equipment
Before the session:
test your camera and microphone;
connect your headset, if you use one;
silence your mobile phone and computer notifications;
close email, messaging applications and unnecessary browser tabs;
check that your device has enough power or is connected to a charger.
What internet speed do I need?
Your upload and download speeds should both be above 3.50 Mbps.
Run an internet-speed test before the session if you are unsure about your connection.
If your connection is weak:
move closer to your router;
close other applications and browser tabs;
disconnect devices that are using the same network;
use a wired internet connection if available.
Prepare yourself
Give yourself a few quiet minutes before joining.
You may find it helpful to:
finish your previous task before opening the session;
take a slow breath before you join;
set aside other concerns and distractions;
remind yourself to listen and remain fully present.
Avoid joining while completing another task. Your full attention helps create a safe and supportive coaching environment.
How early should I join?
Log in to MyThrive in advance and open the relevant session.
You can join up to 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. Use this time to check your camera, microphone and internet connection.
