Under the Teachers Health Trust (THT) plan, dependent children are eligible for coverage up to age 26. By default, coverage ends automatically on the last day of the month in which the child turns 26. This process is automatic; no request or action is needed from the member or dependent.
Exception Due to Disability
However, a child may remain on the plan beyond age 26 if they meet the plan’s disability requirements. To qualify:
The child must be incapable of self-support due to a disability.
The dependent must have had continuous health coverage since turning age 26.
Documentation must be submitted and approved by THT.
Required documentation:
Certification of Disabled Dependent Child Form (completed by both the primary participant and the child’s physician)
Proof of continuous health insurance coverage since age 26
Ongoing Verification
After approval, THT may request updated proof of continued disability and dependency no more than once per year, beginning two years after the child turns 26, in accordance with applicable regulations (NRS 689B.035).
