Setting up custom tax rates for products

Set custom tax rates for products with multiple components, like tickets and food, and ensure correct tax calculation at checkout.

Updated over a week ago

Custom tax rates allow you to split a product’s price across multiple tax rates. This is useful when a single product includes different components that are taxed differently, such as tickets combined with food or merchandise.

With custom tax rates, you stay compliant with local tax regulations while keeping your pricing clear and accurate.

When should I use custom tax rates?

Custom tax rates are ideal if:

  • A product includes multiple components with different tax rules

  • You sell packages (e.g. admission + food, activity + equipment rental)

  • Local regulations require separate tax reporting for parts of a product

How to set up custom tax rates (Web-App)

  1. From the Home page, go to Products

  2. Select the product you want to edit and click Edit

  3. Select Tax Rates

  4. Click Add custom tax rate

  5. Define your custom tax settings by adding one or multiple rows

    • Each row represents a portion of the product price

    • The combined percentage of all rows must equal 100%

Example:
If you sell a package that includes tickets and food:

  • 70% of the price → Ticket tax rate

  • 30% of the price → Food tax rate

Once saved, ticketbro will automatically calculate and apply the correct tax amounts at checkout.

Best practices

  • ✔ Make sure all tax rate rows add up to exactly 100%

  • ✔ Use clear internal logic when splitting prices (e.g. ticket vs. add-ons)

  • ✔ Double-check local tax regulations before setting up mixed tax products

  • ✔ Keep package compositions consistent to simplify reporting
