Why the upgrade?
We want to offer the most reliable and automatic way to fill your bank data into spreadsheets and Direct Fills is it. This upgrade will ensure that all your available bank data makes it into your spreadsheet without you having to click a button or even think about it. After the account refreshes, the data fills. No more separate steps for "refresh and fill."
Keep in mind that some accounts cannot refresh automatically, which will require you to refresh on the Console, but after the refresh, the data will just fill, automagically. πͺ
How to upgrade
The upgrade process does not trigger a fill so if you have transactions that have not yet filled into your spreadsheet at the time of your upgrade they will fill on the next account refresh cycle. You can fill your data one last time using Tiller Money Feeds before upgrading.
Visit the Tiller Console at https://my.tiller.com
Click on your spreadsheet's name
If it's a Sidebar Fills sheet you'll see a banner indicating that you can upgrade it to Direct Fills
Click "Upgrade" to get started and then confirm the upgrade.
If necessary, click "Authorize Sheets" to grant the proper permission for the Direct Fills. Click here to read more on these permissions if you have questions.
If your spreadsheet is compatible, it will be upgraded to Direct Fills after the Authorize Sheets step. Data will begin filling on the next refresh cycle.
Troubleshooting
Incompatible spreadsheets
Your spreadsheet may not be compatible if it's hasn't undergone a necessary migration.
If you see a message that your spreadsheet is not incompatible with Direct Fills and can't be upgraded yet. There are a couple reasons it might be incompatible.
Signed in to the wrong account during the Authorize Sheets step:
When you choose to upgrade you're prompted to Authorize Sheets and select a Google account. If you're using Google Sheets as your primary sign in to Tiller option usually you would choose this one during the Authorize Sheets step, if you're using Microsoft as your sign in to Tiller option you'll need to make sure to authorize with the Google Account that owns the Google Sheet you're trying to upgrade.
Use these steps to fix the issue:
Visit the Tiller Console at https://my.tiller.com/settings
Click the "Revoke" option next to Google Sheets under the Authentication / Spreadsheet access section
Then click "Grant Access" on that same page for Google Sheets again.
When prompted, be sure to sign in with the Google account that owns the spreadsheet.
You haven't completed necessary maintenance in Tiller Money Feeds
Another reason you may see this incompatible message is because you've been away from your sheet for a while (since before June 2025) and you haven't launched the Tiller Money Feeds add-on since then to perform some crucial maintenance.
To fix this issue:
Open your Google Sheet
Launch the Tiller Money Feeds add-on from the Extensions menu
You should see a "Maintenance in progress" message in the sidebar
Allow the maintenance to complete
Try upgrading to Direct Fills again
If you get an error related to the maintenance, or those steps don't help, reach out to our support team via the chat tool on the Tiller Console at https://my.tiller.com.
