Overview
The details you include during assignment setup give the AI the context it needs to generate accurate feedback and grading suggestions. This guide will cover two methods to create an assignment:
Importing an assignment from D2L
Creating an assignment from scratch
Importing an Assignment from D2L
1. Click "Import"
In the top right corner of the Assignments page, click the "Import" button.
2. Select an Assignment
Choose the assignment from D2L that you would like to import, and click "Import."
3. Fill in the Mandatory Fields
For the AI to have sufficient information to provide grading and feedback suggestions, you must have an:
Assignment name
Assignment description
Assignment rubric
You most likely imported these from D2L, but if you're missing any of these fields, you'll need to add them here.
💡 Note: If you didn't import a rubric from D2L, you can create one on TimelyGrader, but you will not be able to pass it back to D2L. This means that when grades are passed back, only the overall final score will be reflected on D2L.
3. Decide Which Features to Enable
By default, both AI grading and feedback suggestions are enabled. You can disable either one if your assignment only requires feedback or grading support. Instant Student Feedback is disabled by default, but you can enable it here to let students access the platform and get feedback on their drafts.
4. Save as Draft or Publish
If you haven't finalized the setup of your assignment, you can choose to save it as a draft by clicking the arrow on the "Publish" button and selecting "Save as Draft." If you've finalized the assignment setup, click "Publish."
💡 Note: You can save the assignment as a draft without filling in all required fields. However, to preview grading and feedback suggestions or upload student submissions, all required information must be completed.
Creating an Assignment from Scratch
1. Create a New Assignment
Navigate to the Assignments tab, and click the "+ Create" button in the top right corner of the page.
2. Fill in the Mandatory Fields
For the AI to have sufficient information to provide grading and feedback suggestions, you must add an:
Assignment name
Assignment description
Assignment rubric
You can either create a rubric manually or generate one with AI based on your assignment description. To learn more about creating rubrics, please review this article.
3. Decide Which Features to Enable
By default, AI grading, feedback suggestions, and Instant Student Feedback are enabled. You can disable any of these based on your assignment's needs.
4. Save as Draft or Publish
If you haven't finalized the setup of your assignment, you can choose to save it as a draft by clicking the arrow on the "Publish" button and selecting "Save as Draft." If you've finalized the assignment setup, click "Publish."
