2. Select Grades

Grading Overview

When you open the grading view, you'll see the first submission that is ready to be graded. Your grading rubric is visible in the right sidebar next to the student’s submission. When you select a criterion, you’ll see:

  • TimelyGrader’s suggested grade

  • The reasoning behind the suggestion

  • Highlighted annotations on the submission that support the suggested grade

This gives you a great starting point to make informed grading decisions more efficiently.

💡 Tip: If you're looking for a specific submission to grade, you can select it from the "Progress" dropdown.

Selecting Grades

To enter a grade, you can either select the rating (pictured) or enter it as a point value into the "Pts" field.

Alternatively, if you've reviewed TimelyGrader's grading suggestions and they look correct, you can click the "Accept Suggestions" button to apply them at any time. This will only apply the suggested grades to ungraded criteria.

💡 Tip: If a student’s score falls between two rating levels, you can manually enter a custom score (including decimals) for more precise grading.

3. Review and Revise Feedback

To review submission feedback, you'll need to switch to the feedback tab at the top of the right sidebar. The red dot indicates that there is unviewed feedback.

Feedback Overview

In the feedback tab, you’ll see TimelyGrader’s suggested feedback for the assignment.

💡 Tip: Our default feedback structure is Rubric-Based Feedback, where students receive one piece of feedback related to each criterion. You can customize this in Advanced Feedback Settings. To learn about other feedback structures, check out this article.

Just like grading, selecting a piece of feedback will display the corresponding annotations on the student’s submission.

Editing Feedback

To edit feedback, click the "..." menu next to the comment, select "Edit," make your changes, and then click "Save."

4. Confirming Grades and Feedback

Once you’ve graded all criteria and reviewed the feedback, click “Confirm & Continue” to move on to the next submission. Then just repeat the process for each remaining submission!

💡 Note: You can exit the grading view at any time. Grades and feedback for confirmed submissions will be saved, and you can review/edit them from the "View Graded Submissions" page.
