New school year guide (NW4.4) Spreadsheet upload

If you have lots of changes to make, it's probably more efficient to upload a spreadsheet (CSV) on the Classes page.

Yes, that's right! You can move existing students with the CSV uploader, as well as adding new ones.

Let's go!

OPTIONAL - Step 1 - Download a logins spreadsheet:

Matching students from your spreadsheet to existing users is the trickiest part of the steps below. To make it easy, you can optionally download your current user list:

  1. Go to Account > Classes

  2. Tick all classes

  3. Click Download > Logins Spreadsheet

This gives you each student's exact name and username, which helps our system match.

Tip: If you decide to skip this step and simply use a list of students exported from your MIS (which won't include the current TTRS/NumBots username) please be sure to double-check the student matches.

Step 2 - Prepare your spreadsheet:

Prepare a spreadsheet with these columns.

(If you've done step 1, you'll already have this spreadsheet and you just need to update the class and year group.)

  • First name

  • Last name

  • Class - enter their new class name

  • Year group - enter their new year group (e.g. "Year 4", "4", "Y4")

Our system matches students by name, but adding a Username column (containing the current TTRS/NumBots username for that student) ensures perfect, hassle-free matching.

So your spreadsheet will hopefully look a bit like this:

Step 3 - Upload your spreadsheet:

Once your spreadsheet is ready, go to:

  • Account

  • Classes

  • Click 'Upload CSV' at the top.

Follow the steps.

It will do all the heavy lifting... creating classes for you if necessary and putting students into their new classes, while preserving their performance data and progress.

Watch this video showing how to prepare and upload your CSV:

But this will take me AGES as I have loads of students to move.

You're right, it'll take some time but it's better than deleting and starting again as the students get to carry on where they left off, which is important for our clever question algorithm.

Here's how you can make it easier:

If your school was able to use Wonde to hook up to your school database, it would handle these class changes in a fraction of the time. Find out if your school is using Wonde.
