Setting the tables (families)

Two things you absolutely need to know about setting the tables.

One: table setting only applies to Garage and Arena game modes.
(further reading: Game Types)

Two: our question algorithm works so smartly all by itself that you don't need to set the tables.

This is really important to appreciate and may come as a surprise but our recommendation is to let TTRS' intelligent system (refined over a decade) take responsibility because it is designed to:

  • personalise the questions for each individual on a continual basis so that they become rock stars at the tables up to 12×12 in the shortest possible time.

  • free parents from laborious data analysis so that your precious time can be dedicated to celebrating your child's effort or some kitchen table support (and all the million and one other things parents have to do...amIright?!)

For the most part...

...setting specific tables is not necessary.

When to set the tables

We can tell - you're desperate to choose some tables aren't you?

Well, ok, two specific scenarios merit choosing specific tables for your child.

When...

  1. ...they're being educated on a particular table in school or home school - set them this one table to reinforce what they're learning in (home)school but remember to switch all the tables back on when they're no longer focusing on a single table.

  2. ...your child is ready to learn beyond 12×12 - if they've 'completed their heatmap' up to 12×12 (i.e. it's all green) then they could be extended to practise the 13 to 19s or even apply previous knowledge to the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, etc.

Tell me how

You're going to smile at how easy it is. 😊

  1. Log in the tutor account, tap the learner's name and then click on Tables.

  2. Switch on the specific tables you want them to focus on.

👆 Example: setting the 2 times table only

Remember: these settings only apply to Garage and Arena games.

We recommend leaving all the tables switched on

Apart from the first scenario described above, you can leave on all the tables.

Parents ask "Should I set tables according to how old my child is?"

It's not recommended to set tables based on the age, year group or current ability of your child. For example, you don't need to limit a 6 year old to 10s.

Parents ask "What if they're not ready for tables beyond, say, the 10s? I don't want them to struggle."

Neither do we! The algorithm will never introduce learners to questions and tables that they're not ready for. Instead it prioritises small groups of questions from the early tables and gradually 'releases' facts as the learner shows they're ready; the process continues until all facts to 12×12 are solid as a rock!

So by restricting them to the 10s, say, you would be inadvertently holding them back despite ample evidence they are ready to move on, while not actually 'shielding' them any more than our system does naturally.

This is a good thing, right?

Yup, totally. We're very proud of the intelligent algorithm that tailors the questions for your child.

Time to embrace the tech that makes your life easier, after all, it's been designed by caring parents like you 🤗.
