How does it work?
We created a very simple teleprompter app that syncs with a TinkerList script. It is not an elaborate Teleprompter tool, you can not edit text within the app. The app just syncs itself one-way from the script.
The application runs on Mac or PC. So not in the browser.
All changes you make in the script will be synced immediately to the Teleprompter App.
We make use of ShuttleXpress jog wheels. No other wheels are supported at the moment.
The app will output the text in a separate window. You can put that fullscreen on your pc's HDMI output.
The signal can then be converted to HDSDI. You can do that with a scan converter. The settings of this device are very important to make sure the text does not jitter.
Summary: What you need:
A mac or a pc with HDMI output.
TinkerList Teleprompter App
Internet connection
ShuttleXpress
Decimator MD-HX or another scan covertor
Create prompter or autocue cards in TinkerList
That's very important, our teleprompter app will only display autocue or prompter cards. All other cards are ignored.
So this is the way to go:
To be able to see your script in the Teleprompter application you need to put the script "on air". You can do that by right clicking on the script in the sidebar and select "On Air". A red dot will appear next to the scripts title.
Download and install our Teleprompter app
Find an installer for mac or pc here: https://tinkerlist.tv/apps/teleprompter/
Do NOT install the ShuttleXpress software
Setup your screen
Turn of mirroring of your screens. Your second screen should be an expansion of your desktop. So you are able to see the prompterscreen on your second monitor and the controls on your first.
Try to set the refresh rate of your HDMI output (not your screen) to 50 or 75 HZ
And if possible, set scaling to 1080i.
Setup the Decimator
If you want to output the prompter signal in HDSDI you need a scan convertor. We use the Decimator MD-HX. A cheap and simple device.
To avoid jitter it is important that the Decimator is setup correctly.
The HDMI signal should pass via it's scaler:
The scaler should be routed to the SDI output
The scaler needs to have the correct properties:
Let's Go!
Login with your TinkeList credentials.
Now open your project and script top left.
The Teleprompter application is very straight forward:
Send the output to the right screen with this button (top right) Click on it until your second screen outputs the Teleprompter signal.
When using a MAC:
In case your home screen turns entirely black. You should check: "Displays have separate Spaces" in "Mission Control" of you "System Preferences". After that you have to logout/login to have this enabled.
Adjust the aspect ratio according to the teleprompter screen (the mirror in front of the camera)
Adjust the text size
Refresh all contents
Double click an item to scroll the teleprompter directly to it.
You can also click once in the light red space before the items
