The examination format lets you test a learner’s knowledge about a specific topic. An examination is its own learning format and differs from other formats in one key way: it only contains validated questions.
What is an examination activity?
An examination is a standalone learning format designed specifically for assessment.
Key characteristics:
Only validated questions are included
Questions can be answered as correct or wrong
No feedback is shown per question
Results are evaluated based on a pass or fail threshold
Templates included in this format
The examination format includes the following templates:
Start (slide #1)
MPC slide (slide #2)
Examination end (slide #3)
These templates define the structure of the examination from start to finish.
How to set up an examination
The examination is created as its own learning format in Studio.
Go to Studio
Create a new activity and select: Examination
Add the supported templates
Configure the examination fields
🧾 Configure the examination fields
⚙ Activity settings
The settings of the examination format apply to the entire learning activity.
Content ID
Used for easy identification in Studio

Duration
Estimated activity duration in minutes
Displayed on the activity tile
If no value is set, no duration is shown
Random question sampling
This setting controls how many questions are shown to the learner during the examination.
You can choose a number of questions to display randomly
Questions are selected from all available questions in the examination
When random sampling is enabled, a message is shown indicating how many quiz questions will be presented.
🔥 Important:
Only the selected number of questions will be shown to the learner.
🧭 Examination overview
An examination consists of a sequence of slides that guide the learner through the assessment.
Based on the included templates, an examination typically contains:
A start slide that introduces the examination
One or more question slides
An examination end slide that shows the result
The examination evaluates learner performance based on the configured threshold.
Slide order matters in examinations
In an examination, only MPC slides that appear before the Examination end slide are included.
Any MPC slides placed after the Examination end slide are not presented to learners.
How this works
The Examination end slide marks the end of the assessment
All MPC slides after this slide are ignored
These slides:
Are not shown to learners
Are not included in the examination
Are not included in random question sampling
Example
If your examination contains:
Start
MPC question
Examination end
MPC question
Only the MPC question before the Examination end slide is included.
The MPC slide after the Examination end slide will not be shown to learners.
To include an MPC slide in the examination, you must move it before the Examination end slide.
🔥 Important:
Only MPC slides positioned before the Examination end slide are considered part of the examination and eligible for random sampling.
📄 Per-slide behaviour
Each slide in the examination serves a specific purpose.
Start slide
The Start slide introduces the examination and helps prepare learners before they begin.
Available settings
For the Start slide, you can configure the following:
Select type of media*:
Choose the media shown at the top of the start slide.
Available options:
Image
Video
Video URL
Hide the image overlay:
When enabled, the dark overlay on top of the image or video is removed.
Threshold*:
A number between 0 and 100 that determines the minimum percentage of questions the learner must answer correctly to pass the examination.
Number of allowed attempts*:
The number of attempts each learner gets to complete the examination.
If set to 0, learners have unlimited retries.
Number of questions to present to the learner*:
The number of questions included when a learner attempts the examination.
Questions are randomly selected from all available questions in the examination.
MPC slides
Question slides present validated questions.
Characteristics:
Learners select one or more answers
Show instructions can be enabled to display additional guidance
Allow multi-select can be enabled to allow selecting multiple answers
No correct or incorrect feedback is shown per question
Learners proceed through the questions as configured by the examination flow.
Examination end slide
The Examination end slide concludes the examination and shows the learner’s result.
This slide is automatically reached after the learner completes all included examination questions.
Available settings
For the Examination end slide, you can configure the following:
Hide the image overlay: When enabled, the dark overlay on top of the background image is removed.
Show which answers were correct/wrong: When enabled, learners can see which of their answers were correct and which were incorrect after completing the examination.
The learners will see their percentage score as well, and thus, if they passed or not.
🔥 Important things to know
Examination questions do not show per-question feedback
Results are evaluated after the examination is completed
Random question sampling limits how many questions are shown, not how many exist
