Certificates give learners official proof of completion for an activity, journey, or programme. They can boost motivation, support qualification tracking, and help you meet compliance needs.

Why use certificate?

Certificates are a great way to allow learners to receive formal recognition for completing learning activities/journeys/programmes. This feature can also be used to boost motivation, track qualifications, or meet compliance requirements.

Enable certificates

Before you can create certificates, you need to enable the feature on the platform.

  1. Go to Settings > Features.

  2. In User progress & achievement, toggle Certificates on.

What happens next:

  • Learners get a Certificates tab in their profile.

    • In Profile > Certificates

    • Learners can view earned certificates, then download them

  • Admins see Behaviour > Certificates in Control

    • In Control > Behaviour > Certificates

    • Admins can manage, create and delete certificates

Create a new certificate

  1. Go to Behaviour > Certificates.

  2. Click New certificate.

  3. Enter an Internal label, then continue to the certificate page to edit it!

💡 Tip:

Keep the certificate name specific, for example “Onboarding Essentials certificate” instead of “Certificate 1”.

Editing a certificate

  1. Add a certificate background image

    1. Select from a file or from the asset library

  2. Select the certificate orientation

  3. Create blocks (more information provided below):

    1. Static text

    2. Dynamic text

    3. Static image

    4. Dynamic image

  4. Move these blocks by dragging them where you want to position them on the certificate

✏️ Note

By default, certificates already come with all the potential blocks, to facilitate adding them to the screen

Fields to change

Field

Definition

Portrait checkbox (optional)

The certificate is automatically shown in a landscape format (2900 x 2050 pixels). By checking this box the certificate will be shown in a portrait format (2050 x 2900 pixels).

Dynamic text

  • Used as placeholder for user information like first/last name, achieved date, expiry date, activity title, contract start date, etc. Setting this up is done in automations.

  • When a user is granted a certificate, the right information will be filled in automatically.

  • Customisation:

    • Font

    • Font size

    • Color

    • Text align

Static text

  • Used to add text that will stay the same for all the users (e.g., Certificate of achievement)

  • Customisation:

    • Font

    • Font size

    • Color

    • Text align

Dynamic image

  • Used as placeholder for the profile image of the user.

  • Customisation:

    • Scaling (fit/cover)

Static image

  • Used to add images that will stay the same for all the users (e.g., signatures or logos)

  • Customisation:

    • Scaling (fit/cover)

✏️ Note

  • Make sure that the boxes of the text are big enough⚡ You can adjust the boxes in the template.

  • For dynamic text, make the boxes (much) bigger than the placeholder. Why? If somebody is called Hubert Blaine Wolfeschlegelsteinhausenbergerdorff Sr., you want his name to fit in as well 😉

Is your certificate all done? Save and publish it!

How to grant certificates?

To grant certificates to users, you have to set up automations.

How to translate the title

  • Translate certificate titles, so that your people receive their certificates in their preferred language. This ensures a personalised experience and better communication within the brand.

  • You can translate the titles when setting up the automations for the certificate.

Good to know 👀

🎯 Grant certificate based on score

To grant a certificate based on a user’s score (e.g. score > 60%), the activity must be built using a direct exam template.

  • The score is only calculated when the activity uses an exam format, including smart exams.

  • This condition can be added in the automation using the "Score" field under conditions.

📌 Important: If the activity is not in an exam format, no score will be available to evaluate, and the certificate will not be triggered based on percentage.
