Impersonation lets you see the platform exactly as one of your users sees it.
It is the fastest way to check whether the right people are seeing the right content, and to understand an issue someone reports.
When to use impersonation
Check content visibility. Confirm that a user sees the activities, journeys and programmes you expect them to see.
Troubleshoot faster. Instead of asking a user to describe what went wrong, see it yourself.
Preview the learner experience. Step into a real user's view before you launch something new.
đ§ Before you start
You cannot impersonate pending users, suspended users, or other admins. Any progress made during an impersonation session is saved on that user's account, so be careful when opening activities.
Impersonate from the platform
You do this from the admin toolbar in the bottom left corner of the platform.
đ Good to know
The toolbar is only visible if you have the admin role. Read more in Using admin mode.
Find the toolbar in the bottom left corner of the platform
Click the icons to expand it
Start typing the email address of the user you want to impersonate
Click the orange Impersonate button next to the user
The page refreshes and you land in that user's version of the platform.
Impersonate from TinQwise Control
Go to Control > Users
Click the user to open their profile
Click the menu in the upper right corner and select Impersonate
A new tab opens with the platform as that user sees it.
While you are impersonating
You will see an orange impersonation bar at the bottom of the page. That bar is your reminder that you are not looking at your own account.
To get it out of the way, click the dash symbol to minimise it.
Stop impersonating
Click Release user in the impersonation bar.
The page refreshes and you are back in your own account.
âď¸ Tip
Always release the user when you are done. If you leave the session open, anything you click keeps landing on their account.
