What happens when required modifier groups aren’t visible?

Question

  • What happens when required modifier groups aren’t visible to a specific ordering channel?

  • If certain required modifier groups aren't visible, will guest orders still process correctly?

Answer

When a modifier group is set as required, but isn't visible to a specific ordering channel (i.e. POS, kiosk, Toast Mobile Order & Pay®, Toast Online Ordering, etc.), a modifier selection will not be required when ordered through that channel.

For example, if Salad Dressing is a required modifier group, but you've changed the visibility settings so that the Salad Dressing modifier group is not visible for kiosk orders, your guests will be able to complete their kiosk order without selecting a Salad Dressing option. In this case, the Salad Dressing selection will be missing from orders placed on a kiosk, even though it's marked as required in the menu editor.

To prevent any missing modifiers on orders, verify your menu visibility settings to ensure that all required modifier groups are visible to the correct ordering channels. To learn more, see Manage Your Menu Visibility Settings.
