Question
How do I add allergen information to my menu items?
Answer
This article explains how to add allergen information to your menu items in Toast Web so guests can review allergens across your Toast guest-facing channels.
Selecting allergens for a menu item makes them visible to guests on the following supported channels:
Online Ordering
Toast Mobile Order & Pay®
Catering Online Ordering
Kiosk
Tables
Local by Toast (Web browser version)
Branded Apps
Follow these steps in Toast Web:
Navigate to Menus > Menu management > Menu manager.
Find the menu item.
Use the Full menu view to expand your menus and select the name of an individual item, or
Select the Items button at the top of the page for a searchable list of all menu items.
Select the item to open the details page.
On the menu item's details page, select the Allergens tab.
From the Allergens tab, select the applicable allergens for the menu item from the drop-down list of pre-defined options. Note: This is a pre-defined list of allergens and is not customizable. Toast includes 20 allergens: almond, black walnut, Brazil nut, California walnut, cashew, crustaceans, egg, fish, hazelnut, heartnut (also called Japanese walnut), macadamia, milk, peanut, pecan, pine nut, pistachio, sesame, soy, walnut, and wheat.
Save and publish your changes.
Once saved and published, the selected allergen information will automatically display across your supported Toast guest-facing channels (Online Ordering, Toast Mobile Order & Pay®, Catering Online Ordering, Kiosk, Tables, Local by Toast, and Branded Apps).
Note: To add allergen information as descriptions to menu items for other Toast menus (not those listed), see the article Add Allergen Information as Descriptions to Menu Items.
