What size barcodes can I print from Toast Web for my retail items?
Answer
You can format and print barcode labels with Toast Retail. Supported label sizes include:
2 1/8″ x 1″
2 1/4″ x 1″
3/4″ x 3/8″
1/2″ x 1″
1″ x 1 1/2″ (Vertical)
1 1/2″ x 1″ (Horizontal)
1 1/8″ x 1″
1 1/4″ x .85″
2 3/16″ x 1/2″
2 1/8″ x 7/16″
2 1/2″ x 3/4″
2.1″ x 0.5″
3” x 1” (a "shelf label")
98% scale width (Dymo 30299, barbell label)
Need a size not on this list? You can create a custom label size using the label editor.
Navigate to Toast Web > Retail > Item library.
Select the item you want to label. The Item details page opens.
Select the Print Barcode Labels icon in the upper right corner.
Select the Label size drop-down.
Select + Create custom label.
Enter the Width (in) andHeight (in) for your label.
Select Save Custom Label.
Note: Custom sizes may not format correctly on all printers (for example, printing vertically instead of horizontally), and once created, a custom label currently can't be deleted — so test a single label before printing a full batch, and use the PDF preview export as a fallback if the custom size doesn't print correctly.
For items with long names, all labels will wrap up to two lines before the text is clipped, as shown in the example below:
Note: When you print a label from the Toast Retail module, it will prompt you to utilize your computer’s installed printer drivers. Toast does not sell barcode label printers. Any label printer will be installed on and connected to a computer (not to the POS system). Dymo and Zebra have several printer options available that create labels in these supported sizes, including the Dymo LabelWriter 550/450, the Zebra ZSB-12, and the Zebra 410.
