Written by Agent Support Bot

Question

How do I configure an open item's or open priced menu item's tax settings?

Answer

Per the terms of the Merchant Agreement between you and Toast, you acknowledge and agree that Toast has no obligation to determine whether taxes apply to your business or transactions, or to calculate, collect, report, or remit any taxes to any tax authority arising from any payment.

To configure an open item’s or open price menu item’s tax settings, follow these steps:

  1. In Toast Web, navigate to Menus> Settings > Open items.

  2. Select an open item or open-priced menu item from the list.

    1. If you need to create a new open item or open-priced menu item, follow the steps indicated here: Create an Open Item or Open Priced Menu Item.

  3. From the Item details page, select your desired tax settings. Here, you can adjust the following settings:

    1. Taxes: Mark if an open item is taxed and if it will have a dining option-specific tax setting (i.e., no tax on takeout/delivery orders), and assign a tax rate

    2. Preparation: If you use courses, choose if an open item should be a specific course and if it should print at a specific prep station(s). Note that if you don't make a selection, your open item will print at all prep stations.

    3. Reporting: Choose a Sales Category for an open item. Select Yes for Defer Revenue if you do not want your open item to be included in your net sales in reporting.

    4. Discounting: Choose if an item can be discounted

    5. Rewards: Choose if an item should be included in your rewards program, if applicable.

  4. Save and publish your changes.
