Checking-in through the notification centre widget does not update the Apple Watch. Why?

Unfortunately, checking in from the notification widget will not update the Apple Watch status in real-time. This behaviour is due to an iOS limitation, as the Widget cannot independently connect to the Watch .The habit status on the Watch will be updated once the app on the iPhone has been opened.
