Custom Formulas

Custom Formulas allow you to create a custom mathematical calculation for your quantity output within each classification. It’s useful when you want Togal to report a derived quantity automatically, based on values you already have (like Quantity 1) or inputs you’ve defined in the classification.

You can set up Custom Formulas from the Create or Edit Classification window, just like other Output Quantities. This function provides greater flexibility in managing and computing your quantities across various trades.

How to setup a Custom Formula:

  1. Open the classification editor. You can:

    • Create a new classification, or

    • Right-click an existing classification and select Edit

  2. Choose “Custom Formula” as an Output Quantity
    In the Output Quantity dropdown, select Custom Formula for the output slot you want to use.

  3. Input your custom mathematical formula
    The interface for the custom formula field is designed to resemble the familiar formula entry process found in Excel.

    • Start by entering the "=" symbol.

    • You can build your formula using

      • any numerical value you type in, and/or

      • Existing outputs/inputs (e.g., values from Quantity 1, Quantity 2, or other available fields shown in the editor)

    • The input formula should be logically structured. It can use the following symbols:

      • Parentheses = () (parenthesis symbols)

      • Multiplication = * (asterix symbol)

      • Division = / (backslash symbol)

      • Addition = + (plus symbol)

      • Subtraction = - (minus symbol)

  4. Set the output unit
    After the formula, choose or enter the unit of measurement you want for that output.

  5. Save
    Click Save to apply the custom formula to the classification.

The system will automatically apply your defined calculations whenever you perform a manual takeoff or reclassify the AI takeoff. This ensures that you receive the customized output based on your established formula, streamlining your workflow.

You will see the data populating in the Quantity panel, and it will also be accessible in the Export Tab, allowing you to easily export the information to Excel.

Tips:

  • By saving these classifications along with their custom formulas to your library, you can conveniently retrieve and utilize them in future projects.

  • You can incorporate a variety of default quantity outputs and classification properties into each custom formula to enhance your calculations.
