As your payment processor, Tonder ensures that all settlement operations are transparent, predictable, and aligned with industry best practices. This guide explains how settlement cycles work in Mexico for different payment methods, including credit and debit cards, Oxxo Pay, SPEI, cash payments, and Mercado Pago.

1. Payment Methods Covered

Tonder processes and settles transactions from:

  • Debit and Credit Cards

  • Oxxo Pay

  • SPEI (bank transfers)

  • Cash Payments

  • Mercado Pago

2. Settlement Cycles

Tonder follows a bi-weekly settlement schedule for most Mexican payment methods:

First Half of the Week

  • Transaction Period: Thursday 00:00:00 → Sunday 23:59:59

  • Settlement Day: The following Tuesday

Example:

If 10,000 transactions are authorized between Thursday 00:00:00 and Sunday 23:59:59, the payout will be executed on Tuesday of the following week.

Second Half of the Week

  • Transaction Period: Monday 00:00:00 → Wednesday 23:59:59

  • Settlement Day: The following Friday

Example:

If 10,000 transactions are authorized between Monday 00:00:00 and Wednesday 23:59:59, the payout will be executed on Friday of the same week.

3. Special Case: Mercado Pago

Unlike other payment methods, Tonder does not perform settlements for Mercado Pago transactions.

  • Direct Settlement: Mercado Pago settles directly to the merchant, based on the commercial terms and schedules agreed between the merchant and Mercado Pago.

  • Processing Role of Tonder: Tonder only processes the payments and reports them in your transaction history, but we do not control when funds are released.

  • Timing: Settlement frequency (daily, weekly, or otherwise) depends entirely on Mercado Pago’s clearing policies and your individual contract with them.

  • Visibility in Reports: Transactions processed through Mercado Pago will still appear in Tonder’s reports, but you should expect funds to arrive directly from Mercado Pago, not through Tonder’s regular Tuesday/Friday settlement cycles.

Implication for Merchants:

  • All cash flow planning for Mercado Pago transactions should be based on the settlement terms you have with Mercado Pago, not Tonder’s cycles.

  • Tonder’s role is limited to processing, reconciliation support, and reporting for visibility.

4. Key Considerations

  • Success Transactions Only: Settlements include only transactions that have been successfully authorized and cleared by the acquirer or provider.

  • Rolling Reserve (if applicable): Depending on your merchant agreement, a percentage of processed funds may be held as rolling reserve to cover disputes, chargebacks, or refunds.

  • Fees and Taxes: Processing fees, IVA, and any additional charges are deducted automatically before settlement.

  • Reporting: Settlement reports are shared with merchants on each settlement day, including a breakdown of all transactions, fees, rolling reserves, and net payout amounts.

5. Support & Transparency

Tonder’s FinOps team monitors every settlement cycle to ensure accuracy and reliability. If any issue arises (e.g., SPEI delay, bank holiday impact, Adjustments), merchants will be notified immediately.
