Overlays

Set up a template size, add one or multiple overlays, or create it using our integrated designer

Brief introduction

Touchpix designer is a built-in, free tool, used to create, edit and add your own overlays or backgrounds to your event. Even though it is designer to be user-friendly, some questions may arise, so here's a guide on how to use it.

Adding a custom overlay adds to your event a personal touch, a creative decoration, or a marketing image that impacts positively on all the audience. Along with printing and sharing, it creates an awesome piece of memorabilia for the guest, and a great memento.

Select the function

To help differentiate, we have three different options on the designer, as seen on the image below. Each option corresponds to different functions. Make sure to select the correct function, as the most common issue is that overlays not show due to them being added to the wrong function to be used.

You will be prompted to select it just as you open the designer, but this can be changed at any time:

The GIF function displays as only one on the app, but two different ones on the website. Here is a quick step-by-step explaining the differences:

  • Animated GIF: The final result is a video, with the pictures taken showing in a row, creating a GIF-like video.

  • GIF (photo/print): This option is usually used when you want a different distribution of the pictures rather than a single photo or a strip.

Having a GIF overlay added to your event for both video and photo will interfere. Use this detailed guide to work with Animated GIF.

Choose the event

As you may be running more than one event at the same time, you have the chance to select which event do you want to apply this graphics to. This is selected in the top left corner drop down menu, which displays a list with all the active events, and their corresponding number and name.

Selecting a template

The world of photo booth and 360 platforms is very wide, requiring sometimes using different sizes and distributions. Touchpix does not only offer standard image sizes, from long portrait to long landscape, but also custom templates for photo booths.

In this case, selecting the Photo function on the designer, and marking the "custom template" checkbox, you can add different photos on the same template, with different sizes for each one.

Final step, decorate

Now that you have your size and distribution ready, you are good to start creating the overlay! The designer has many stickers included to create an awesome overlay, as well as a tool to add text, but you also have the option to add your own stickers.

To do so, select on the left panel to add overlays, stickers, background, or text. Each section will allow you to upload from your storage, import from canva or manage existing uploads.

Adding multiple overlays to the event

It is possible to add multiple overlays for an event, without a set limit. After adding the first overlay, you can repeat all the previous steps to add another one.

Finally, after clicking on "save to event", this message will pop up:

In this screen, you can keep all, delete all previous overlays to add the new one only, or overwrite the overlay you select.

Once you add multiple overlays, you will be prompted to select one of them in the app, after pressing a session button.

Add a custom overlay

To have a wider customization, you can use "upload overlays" to add your own existing overlay (make sure it has a transparent background), or "design library" to find some overlays created by Touchpix and divided into different categories.

You can create your own PNG overlay by creating it externally, having a world of possibilities. Simply create a transparent PNG with the required size and ready to upload it to the designer.

Once everything is set, just click "save to event" and wait for the confirmation message. To double-check, you can open the "overlays" option in your event's tab.

Keynotes

  • If you have an existing overlay, but the background is not transparent, we recommend going back to the creation tool to export it as PNG with transparent background. Only in case it is not possible, you can use the following website to do it automatically: https://www.remove.bg/

  • Only use 'switch to 4K' when recording with a GoPro.

  • Not all PNG files will be accepted. These must have at least one transparency layer.

  • The template sizes are fixed. You can create a custom size for the photo templates (each individual take), but the template as a whole cannot be modified outside the available dimensions.
