How to add animated overlays

Learn how to add your animated overlays to your video sessions in Touchpix

What are animated overlays?

Among the many tools that enhance the impact and professionalism of your videos, animated overlays stand out as a powerful creative and functional resource.

Animated overlays are dynamic graphic elements—such as lower thirds, logos, transitions, titles, or motion backgrounds—layered over video footage. They serve both aesthetic and informational purposes, helping to capture attention, convey key messages, and reinforce brand identity. In the context of events, whether weddings, corporate gatherings, or sports competitions, animated overlays play a crucial role in creating a cohesive and engaging viewing experience.

How to add an animated overlay

  1. Obtain or design an animated overlay, in .mov or .mp4, up to 300MB

  2. Open your Touchpix app or the event manager, and select the desired event

  3. Head to the 'Video Effects - Audio' section in the settings menu

  4. Select your desired session type between 'Video', 'Boomerang', 'GIF' or 'Slomo'

  5. Tap on 'Add Effect' and search for the 'Overlay Alpha, Color or Black' video effect, depending on how your overlay is designed.

Keynotes

  • Touchpix does not offer a built-in option to create animated overlays, they have to be created externally.

  • There are different backgrounds to put in an animated overlay. It is important to note that the effects will remove the color selected from the animated overlay, so make sure to use a color for the background that won't be used in the rest of the overlay.

  • Each "Overlay" effect has its own functionalities, and it's important to know how to use each of them depending on how your overlay is built:

    • Overlay Alpha: This effect replaces the alpha layer

    • Overlay Black: Used to remove the color black from the overlay. Useful for animated overlays with black background.

    • Overlay Color: Type or find the exact color you want to remove from the animated overlay.
