Using Groups

Updated over 5 months ago

Groups are used to create a "bucket" of players for a tournament. If you set up a tournament using a group, only the players in that group will be competing in that tournament. Groups are extremely useful when setting up side games like optional skins.

In this article, we will discuss the use of groups in detail.

Groups or Divisions?:

When you need to create a "bucket" of players for a tournament, the question arises "Should I create a group or division?". The facts below will help you decide what to use:

  • When using groups, you are restricted to "player v. group" (individual) Stroke Play, Stableford, and Quota tournaments. For Match Play, you are restricted to "Player v. All Players". For all other competitions, you must create divisions instead.

  • Sub-divisions (divisions within divisions) cannot be created. If you have a ladies division and a men's division, you can't create a sub-division within those two divisions. However, you can create a group within those divisions.

  • If you are creating a Gross/Net Bias tournament, use division instead.

  • When using a division, points/purse awarded in that tournament will go to that division. This may not be what you are looking for. Maybe you only have one division in your league "All Golfers" and you want to set up tournaments using different groups you've created and you want all the points/purse won in those groups to go to the "All Golfers" division point/purse standings. If this is the case, you will want to stick with using groups.

Creating Groups:

To create a group, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to League/Event > League/Event Profile > General Settings and select that your league/event uses Teams/Groups (as shown below).

  1. Go to Golfers > Divisions/Flights Teams (If creating a group to be used only for a specific round in a multi-round event/league, go to Rounds > Divisions/Flights/Teams instead).

  2. Click "Manage Groups" for the division where you'd like to create the group.

  3. Click "Add New Group".

  4. Name the Group and click "Next".

  5. Select the players to include in the group.

  6. Click "Save".

The sequence below shows the process of creating a group:

Using Groups for a Tournament:

Once you've created a group, it can then be used for a tournament. Go to the tournament setup and select the group in the "Teams or Groups" dropdown (as shown below).

Save the tournament. Only players in the group will then be competing in that tournament.
