When a golfer accesses a league or event portal, we sometimes need to know who this person is: when he or she is a player in the master roster filling out a registration form using Event and League Registration, or is registering to play in a round via the league portal, or wants to upload photos or add a message to the message board.
The two methods by which we will know who a user is are:
Single Sign On (SSO): the member access the league/event portal from a club or other website using SSO. The identity of the person is presented to us by the website that invoked us. Click Here for details.
βThis person is registered as a user in Golf Genius. In this case, the golfer signs into the league or event portal with an email address and password.
If we do not know who a user is and we need to know, we may ask the person to self-identify (with a club member number, for instance). If we are in an open registration form, then the form will include a list box containing names of those in the master roster. The user can type the first few characters of their name, and then click on their name. You can optionally set a verification field such as the member number to be used as a password. If someone is registering to play in a round of a league, the process is the same. When adding photos or entries on the message board, we ask the golfer to enter their initials or name.
If you are using SSO, then there is no reason to register your golfers. If you are not using SSO and want a higher level of security then you can register your golfers with Golf Genius. For details on registering golfers with Golf Genius, click here.
Should you use SSO? We recommend it, but it is not necessary. If you do use SSO, then you need to maintain an accurate master roster, because we use the master roster to associate the identification information passed to us with a GG user. The master roster provides this link. If you plan to use OR or have golfers register for league rounds on the league portal, then SSO makes things flow nicely. If you do not use these (you are using another event registration system; you use email invitations for league round registration), then SSO may be overkill.
