In many bracket tournaments, there are consolation brackets that accompany the main competition's bracket. As players/teams are eliminated from a round in the main bracket, they are moved to the consolation bracket where they can compete to win the consolation bracket. This is a great way to keep your players/teams "in the game" even after their first loss. In this article, we will discuss how to create and manage consolation brackets.
β
Setting up a Consolation Bracket:
In order to set up a consolation bracket, first create the main bracket tournament that will send losing players/teams to the consolation bracket. For more information on setting up and creating a bracket tournament, Click Here.
Once the main bracket tournament is created, go to Event/League > Bracket Tournaments > Add New Bracket Tournament.
Create the setup for the consolation bracket. We suggest changing the name to "Consolation Bracket" or something similar. Select the number of players/teams that will be in the consolation bracket and what rounds will be used.
In the example setup above, this consolation bracket is being created from a 32-player main bracket tournament. 16 players will lose in the 1st round (Friday, November 3rd) of the main bracket tournament. Those 16 players will then be filled into the consolation bracket. It is important to select the correct rounds to use for the consolation bracket. In this setup, Round 1 of the consolation bracket (Round of 16) will be on November 4th. It will take four total rounds to complete the consolation bracket competition.

The rest of the setup is typically similar to the main bracket tournament (e.g., Default Tee, Handicap). For more details on singles bracket tournament setup, Click Here. For more information on team bracket tournament setup, Click Here.
After creating the setup, click "Next" to go to "Edit your First Round Matches".
Go to the Auto-Fill > Consolation Bracket. Select the main bracket tournament and round that the losing players/teams will be coming from. Click "Go". In the sequence above, we are creating an 8-person consolation bracket. The players are coming from the Club Championship Bracket
If the eliminating round of the main bracket is already complete, then the players/teams will already be filled into the consolation bracket. If the eliminating round is not complete, then the consolation bracket will fill in automatically as results come in from the eliminating round.
If you'd like to manually fill in the consolation bracket rather than having it "auto-filled", simply go to edit the first round matches of the consolation bracket.
Click "Set Bracket Manually". The auto-filling will stop as results come in and you will have full control of how the consolation bracket is set.
Managing the Consolation Bracket:
Managing a consolation bracket is no different than managing regular brackets. You can always go to Event/League > Bracket Tournaments to edit the consolation bracket settings and matches.
The consolation matches will be included with the main bracket matches in each round. To enter hole-by-hole scores, simply go to Rounds > Enter Hole-by-Hole Scores.
To enter match results, go to Rounds > Enter Match Results
The matches will be separated by brackets. If you look above, the Championship matches are listed at the top and the Consolation matches are listed at the bottom.
Both the main and consolation brackets will be visible on the Manager Site leaderboard, TV leaderboard, and portal leaderboard.
