With Towbook, you can see every vehicle or piece of equipment on your lot using our Impound Inventory feature.
That means no more bundling up, extra trips outside, or leaving the comfort of your office or truck to see what's there.
Getting Started
Your first step is to mass print inventory labels for your existing impounds so everything is ready for the very first scan!
Each label includes a QR code, stock number, year, make, model, VIN, and plate number, making it easy to clearly identify each vehicle at a glance.
Mass Printing Inventory Labels
There are two ways to mass print inventory labels:
From the Impounds tab:
Select all impounds or multi-select the ones you want to include, then click Create QR Codes at the bottom of the screen. You can print the labels immediately or download them for later use.
Using an Impound Report (recommended):
Individual Labels
If you only need a single label, you can print individual QR codes using the methods above, or, while viewing an impound, select 'Generate QR Code' from the top menu.
QR Code Formats
You can print QR Codes in multiple ways:
An 8 1/2" x 11" PDF using a standard office printer
(Affordable Printing Solution) 4" x 6" KNAON Thermal Printer and Labels
(High-End Industrial Printer) 4" x 6" thermal label using a Zebra ZT421 printer designed to ensure your labels are fade-proof to hold up in real-world conditions.
Once printed, stick each label on the matching vehicle or set it on the dashboard, and you’re ready to start scanning.
Scanning Vehicle Inventory
Logging your inventory is quick and simple; all you need is your mobile device, the Towbook app, and maybe some comfortable shoes.
Open the Towbook mobile app and navigate to the 'Impounds' section
Tap the 'QR Code' icon to launch the inventory scanner
Scan each vehicle’s label (this will automatically update the 'Last Scanned Date' and log the vehicle’s location coordinates in Towbook).
Keep scanning as many vehicles as needed; one smooth pass through your lot does it all.
On the flip side, if you need to pull up an impound record on the lot, just scan the QR code using your phone’s camera.
As long as you’re logged into Towbook, you’ll be taken straight to that vehicle’s impound details.
Last Scanned Date
You can view a vehicle’s Last Scanned Date in several places throughout Towbook, making it easy to stay on top of your inventory:
Impound History: Shows the vehicle’s most recent scan, including the date, time, and location coordinates.
Vehicle Details: Displays the last scanned date and time at a glance.
Impounds Page: Use the 'III' button to show or hide columns, then enable the 'Last Scanned Date' column. From there, you can filter impounds by this field to quickly confirm which vehicles have been scanned and identify any that still need attention.
