Finding customers on the highway is easy!
Towbook’s mapping system allows you to search for and navigate directly to highway mile markers and exits, making it easier to pinpoint roadside locations when a traditional street address isn’t available.
Navigating to Mile Markers or Exits
Adding a mile marker or exit as a pickup or destination is easy!
In the call editor Pickup or Destination address field on either the Towbook web or mobile app, simply enter the highway or route along with the mile marker or exit number. (i.e. 'I-94 Exit 257' or 'I-94 MM 257')
Towbook will locate the nearest mile marker or exit on the map, helping your team quickly identify the right location and get your driver on the way.
⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE: To pinpoint an exact location, you must enter both the highway or route and the mile marker or exit number. Entering only the highway or route will not return a specific location.
Dispatching Using Mile Markers & Exits
If you're using the web app to dispatch, there are couple of additional options available.
Call Editor
Click the 'pin' icon next to the 'Pickup' or 'Destination' field in the Call Editor. From here, you can select a mile marker and use its suggested location or GPS coordinates, if needed.
Map Tab
In Towbook’s new mapping experience, click any mile marker or exit displayed on the map to automatically copy its GPS coordinates to your clipboard. You can then paste the coordinates directly into the Call Editor.
How Does It Work?
There are a few things to keep in mind when using mile markers and exits in Towbook:
1. Location Matters. Because mile marker numbers can be reused across different states and highways, Towbook will prioritize the matching mile marker or exit based on your company state.
2. Availability May Vary. Mile marker and exit data is available in most areas nationwide, but some locations may not be supported yet. Coverage may continue to expand over time as additional mapping data becomes available.
3. The New Mapping Experience is Required. This feature is only available in Towbook’s new mapping experience. It is not supported in Classic Maps, which will be going away soon.
This feature is included in the Ultimate+ Plan and Above
