Why are there duplicate orders or oversized positions on my follower accounts?

Duplicate or oversized follower orders almost always mean two trade copiers are connected to the same broker accounts simultaneously.

Duplicate orders and oversized positions on follower accounts are almost always caused by two trade copiers connected to the same broker accounts at the same time. If you were previously using another copier — whether cloud-based or set up locally on your own machine or VPS — it may still be running in the background even if you believe it was disconnected.

You might be experiencing this if:

  • Follower accounts are receiving doubled orders or positions larger than your multiplier should produce

  • Trades are being replicated to your followers even when Tradecopia is closed

  • Orders started duplicating after you switched from another trade copier

  • Position sizes on follower accounts are bigger than expected with no clear reason

  • Replication is happening on its own without any action in Tradecopia

If the unexpected size is on the leader account rather than the followers → see Why is my leader account showing more contracts than I placed? instead.

What is causing this

When two trade copiers are connected to the same broker accounts simultaneously, every trade on the leader is sent twice — once by each copier. Followers receive two instructions to open the same position, resulting in doubled orders or positions that are twice the expected size.

This is not a Tradecopia issue. Tradecopia is sending correct instructions. The duplication is caused by a second copier that is still active on the same accounts.

A common version of this scenario: you recently switched to Tradecopia from another trade copier — whether it was cloud-based or set up locally on your own machine or VPS. You removed your accounts from the old setup, but the previous copier still has active connections running in the background. Some copier setups — whether cloud-hosted or running locally — do not accurately reflect live connections on first load. Connections that appear deleted may still be active in the background.

A strong signal that this is your problem: replication is happening even when Tradecopia is completely closed. If followers receive trades without Tradecopia running, another copier is doing it.

How to confirm it

  1. Close Tradecopia completely — not just minimised, but fully closed

  2. Place a trade on the leader account manually through your broker platform

  3. Check whether the trade is replicated to any follower accounts

  4. If followers receive the trade → another copier is still active and must be disconnected before Tradecopia will work cleanly

How to disconnect the previous copier

  1. Log into your previous trade copier platform's dashboard

  2. Navigate to connected accounts, linked accounts, or broker connections

  3. Refresh the page 5–10 times — do not stop at the first view. Known behaviour on other copier setups, whether cloud-hosted or locally run: connections that appear removed may reappear after multiple page refreshes, revealing live connections that were not surfaced on first load

  4. Remove any accounts that reappear and repeat until they stay gone across multiple refreshes

  5. Run the isolation test above again to confirm no copier is still active before proceeding

Once the isolation test confirms no other copier is replicating, reconnect your accounts in Tradecopia and resume normal use.

Best practice: Before connecting any new trade copier, fully disconnect all previous copiers and run the isolation test. Only one copier should have access to your accounts at a time.
