How to Set Default Commissions and Fees for Your Trades

Learn how to create default commission and fee rules in TradeZella, apply them to existing trades, and set them up for backtesting sessions.

Written by Marl

Commission and fee rules let TradeZella automatically apply your trading costs to imported trades, so you don't have to enter them manually.

How Do I Access Commission and Fee Settings?

  • Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.

  • Select Settings, then open the Rules & Fees tab.

  • Click the Commissions & fees tab.

Or go straight there: Commissions & Fees

How Do I Create a Commission and Fee Rule?

Click Add rule to open the rule form, then fill in the following:

  • Account — the account the rule applies to.

  • Instrument — Option, Stock, Future, Future Option, Forex, CFD, or Crypto.

  • Symbol — enter a specific symbol, or toggle All to cover every symbol.

  • Mode — Per contract or Per execution.

  • Apply — on all executions, on entry executions, or on exit executions.

  • Comm., $ — your commission amount.

  • Fee, $ — your fee amount.

Click Create to save the rule.

Any future trades you import will have this rule applied automatically.

⚠️ Important: If commissions and fees are already present on the trades you import, the rule will not apply to those trades. Use the Overriding Commissions and Fees instructions below instead.

How Do I Apply a Commission and Fee Rule to Existing Trades?

  • Click the three dots icon (⋮) next to the rule you created.

  • Select "Apply to existing trades", and a pop-up will appear.

  • Click "Apply", and it will apply the commission and fee to the existing trades.

How Do I Override Existing Commission and Fee Values?

If your existing trades already have commissions and fees that you want to replace:

  • Click the three dots icon (⋮) next to your rule.

  • Select Apply to existing trades.

  • Tick Override my existing commission & fee values in the pop-up.

  • Click Apply to override the existing trades as well.

How Do I Edit or Delete a Rule?

Click the three dots icon (⋮) next to the rule you want to change.

  • Select Edit to update the rule's settings, then save your changes.

  • Select Delete rule to remove it.

Deleting a rule stops it from applying to future imports. It does not remove commissions and fees that have already been applied to your existing trades.

Can I Set Commissions and Fees for Backtesting?

Yes. When creating your rule, select Backtesting as the Account.

Your backtesting trades will then have commissions and fees applied the same way your imported trades do, so your backtest results reflect realistic trading costs rather than raw price movement.
