Pixels are a key part of how TrafficGuard prevents invalid traffic on your Meta Ads. Each Meta property (ad account) is linked to a property group in TrafficGuard, and a pixel is assigned to that group. This setup allows invalid users to be tagged and excluded from your campaigns.

How TrafficGuard uses pixels

TrafficGuard uses pixels to create a custom event called TG Invalid User for each ad account. This event is triggered each time we identify an invalid user and is the signal used in custom audience definitions to automatically exclude these users from your campaigns.

How pixels are assigned

  • When you connect a Meta portfolio we create a TG Meta account and property for each Meta ad account. TrafficGuard automatically assigns these created properties to a property group and links the chosen default pixel to the property group.

    • If no property group exists, one is created for you with a default pixel.

  • Only one pixel can be assigned to a property group at a time, but the same pixel can be used across multiple groups.

Note: The default pixel is always required and cannot be unassigned. It is used by default whenever a Meta property is added to a property group that does not yet have an assigned pixel.

Managing your pixels

  • If you have more than one Meta pixel you can view and change the pixel assigned to a property group in the TrafficGuard Portal.

  • The assigned pixel will be shown in the property group details under Facebook Pixel.

  • When you change a pixel, we check if the assigned pixel already has the required custom event.

    • If they exist, no action is needed.

    • If not, TrafficGuard creates them for you and notifies you to approve them in Meta Events Manager.

Approving custom events

Each custom event we create using defined pixels must be approved within your Meta Events Manager for the account to go into Prevention. The video below shows how to approve TrafficGuard's custom events.
