Managing Storefront Splits

How leaders adjust storefront split credits when Scouts arrive late, leave early, or work longer than scheduled — covers by-shift and by-day scenarios and whether adjustments can be made after a shift ends.

Adjustments, Reporting, and Special Scenarios

Once a split method is chosen, sales credit is calculated automatically based on shift sign-ups. Because of this, adjustments must be handled carefully.

Can Leaders Edit Scout Hours?

Scout hours cannot be edited directly. Hours are calculated based on shift registrations and the time assigned to those shifts. To adjust credit, leaders must add or remove Scouts from shifts, or use the alternate adjustment methods outlined below.

Can Leaders Edit the Shifts?

Once sales are recorded for a shift, the shift length cannot be changed. For example, if a shift is 11:00am-1:00pm and a Scout leaves at 12:45pm, the leader will not be able to change the shift time to 11:00am-12:45pm.

Adjusting Credits When Scouts Arrive Late or Leave Early

Trail’s End® recommends scheduling one Scout (with a parent) per shift whenever possible. This avoids the need for most adjustments.

If your unit staffs multiple Scouts per shift and adjustments are needed:

General Guidelines

  • Set the expectation that Scouts work their full assigned shift.

  • If a Scout cannot complete their full shift, give credit if they worked most of it; otherwise, don't give credit.

  • Credit is based on shift assignment, not actual clock time.

  • Defined shifts (start and end times of each shift) cannot be edited once sales are recorded on the shifts.

Adjustment Options (When Needed)

We understand that sometimes units prefer to make adjustments due to various factors such as arriving late, leaving early, or staying for a longer period than scheduled.

If your unit decides to make additional adjustments, below are some potential solutions you can implement. Our support team cannot make adjustments for you.

If a Scout Worked Less Time Than Scheduled

If the split is:

Do this:

By shift

If they were the only Scout working the shift, there is no need to adjust.

To adjust when multiple Scouts are involved: determine the approximate sales the Scout should earn and convert that amount to Individual Sales for that Scout. Note that sales can only be moved to Individual Sales for the Scout who originally recorded them — they cannot be moved to a different Scout. The remaining sales on the shift will be split among the other Scouts assigned to that shift.

By day

If the storefront was arranged by your Unit:

  • Add a new shift that is the correct length outside of your actual shifts and assign the Scout to this new shift.

  • Withdraw the Scout from the previous shift.

  • There is no need to move sales to the new shift.

If the storefront was booked by Trail's End®:

  • Since it is not possible to change the shift lengths once sales have been recorded and you will not be able to add a shift outside of the reserved hours, it's best to either give the Scout credit if they worked the majority of the shift or not give the Scout credit if they missed most of the shift.

If a Scout Worked More Time Than Scheduled

If the split is

Do this:

By shift

If they were the only Scout working the shift, there is no need to adjust.

To adjust when multiple Scouts are involved: determine the approximate sales the Scout should earn and move the relevant sales to the shift the Scout was assigned to. Sales can only be moved to Individual Sales for the Scout who originally recorded them. The remaining sales will be split among the other Scouts assigned to that shift.

By day

If the storefront was arranged by your Unit:

  • Add a new shift that reflects the extra hours the Scout worked outside of your regular shifts, and assign the Scout to this new shift.

  • Keep the Scout on the previous shift.

  • There is no reason to move sales to the new shift.

If the storefront was booked by Trail's End®:

  • Because shift lengths can't be changed after sales are recorded, and shifts cannot be added outside reserved hours, it's best to either give the Scout credit if they worked the majority of the shift or not give the Scout credit if they missed most of the shift.
