Vehicle types can be used to communicate to the carrier/courier which kind of vehicle is required to transport the load specified in the Material Order. They can also be assigned to rate zones hence influencing the cost assigned to an order.
Vehicle types can be assigned to Sales Orders and Transport Orders. If transport orders are created automatically upon Sales order activation, the vehicle type will be transferred to the Transport order
Ways to assign a vehicle type
Manually: select a vehicle type on the order form or in the carrier assign window
Automatically: have the system assign a vehicle type based on order calculations
Default: You can set a default vehicle type for carriers and drivers
Assign vehicle type manually
When you assign a Carrier or driver you can apply a vehicle type from the assign pop-up. Make sure the "apply vehicle type" checkbox is deactivated as this would order the system to apply a vehicle type instead of using the one manually entered
If the courier has a default vehicle type, then the vehicle type will be entered in the vehicle type field. Before you select a driver, the current order Vehicle type will be shown in the Vehicle type field. The current order vehicle type can be found on the order form itself
Have the system assign a vehicle type automatically
Apply vehicle type can be found on the order form and on the carrier/driver assign window popup. You can make sure the is default activated by specifying this in the order form settings
The system will select the vehicle type based on the following criteria:
Weight/Volume: The system will compare the order value with the max value specified for the Vehicle Type
Height/Length/Width: The greatest of each value on Part level compared against the max value specified for the Vehicle Type
Any unit not present on the Vehicle Type is presumed to allow an infinite amount
Matching Vehicle types are sorted first on Volume, then Weight
If the parts are considered Hazardous ( ADR ), then we only allow Vehicle Types that were marked as being able to transport Hazardous goods
When the "Apply Vehicle Type" checkbox is activated, the system will always add the calculated vehicle type when you save the order, even if one was selected by the user. If you want to make sure the system keeps the entered vehicle type, you need to deactivate the Apply Vehicle Type checkbox before you save the order
Default vehicle type
You can specify which vehicle type a carrier is allowed to use and mark 1 as the default vehicle type for that carrier in the Carrier Masterdata
In the driver card, you can assign a default vehicle to a driver, this default vehicle can have a vehicle type linked to it. This vehicle type is then assigned to the order
