Geocoding

Learn how geocoding works.

The system uses three geoservice providers:

  1. Trimble Maps (PCMILER) for US orders.

  2. HERE WeGo for everything else.

  3. EIRCODE for decoding Irish postal codes (EIRCODES).

Whilst Trimble Maps and HERE WeGo are similar to Google Maps or Apple maps, the geocoding or routing may differ.

When inserting an address on the Order Form, it is important to ensure that the location is geocoded correctly. The best way to do that is by using the suggestions, which show in the dropdown when typing the address in the 'Street + Number' field.

The globe icon, found next to the Collection/Delivery header, indicates the quality of the location geocoding. You can see that in the example above, it turns green as soon as the inserted address is processed, which means that the location is geocoded with high quality.

If an address is not exactly recognised, the location is geocoded with low quality. This generally means it is accurate on a city level, meaning that the milestone will be located in the center of the closest recognized town. Low quality geocoding is indicated by the orange color of the icon.

New locations can also be entered in the Location Master Data. Similar to the order form, geocodes are automatically done when saving the address, and the geocode quality is displayed using an icon in the masterdata grid.

If you manually enter the lat,lon values (geocode) in the location via the masterdata, the system will automatically set the geocode quality to High. In this case, the manually entered geo codes will not be overwritten or re-resolved by the system.
