At Tread, we take privacy seriously. The driver app only has access, and uses your location while logging a job or assignment accepted to help with navigation, and to report on cycle times to improve trucking efficiencies.
Only you have the ability to enable GPS tracking on your device by logging on a job.
You can find more about our Tread's Privacy Policy at: https://tread.io/privacy-policy/
How much data does the mobile app use?
Internet access is required to use the Mobile app. Everything you send to someone (upload) or receive from (download) while using the Internet on phone apps, will require some amount of speed and data use from your cell phone plan.
Tread supports LTE & 3G networks, and it will use your data plan when you login to use the app, view job details and add your tickets. If you use Tread every day, Tread will use about 50MB/wk for 5 business days.
In comparison, Google Maps app consumes about 5-10 MB every hour on Android and iPhone devices using standard mode.
When do I share my GPS location with Tread?
Once you accept and start an assignment in Tread by tapping on Start Job, you begin to transmit your GPS coordinates every 30 seconds.
Once you tap on the STOP LOG button, after a few minutes, Tread will no longer aware of your location, as it uses the GPS on your phone, and once it is stopped, it is not possible for Tread to receive location information from your device.
Tread is not able to start your GPS services without you taking action. Only you have the ability to enable GPS tracking by logging on a job.
To minimize the frequency of these messages, quit the app when you are done with your workday.
What is app background access?
Access to location is considered in the foreground if it happens while the Tread app is open and visible. If you close the app, or hit the home button to return to the main screen, then the app's access to location is considered in the background.
GPS Tracking
Location Services allows Tread to capture data only when a job has been accepted, started, and you are active on a job and or started Logging by pressing on Start Log & Start Logging.
Sharing your GPS signal with Tread provides insights about:
Cycle Times: Speed, pick-up and drop-off location details.
Site Activity: Time spent on each site.
Location settings have to be set as "Always" or "Always allow" to help with load efficiencies.
The following messages are permission reminders by the iPhone iOS for transparency, letting you know Tread has access to your GPS location settings.
Tread, like some other apps (Google Maps), can continue to access some data even when they’re not open, if you’ve given your permission.
However, this does not mean that TREAD is tracking you:
If you are concerned about the frequency of these messages, quit the app when you are done with your workday, and open it again before you have to get started with your jobs.
