Rota King shifts are displayed in decimalised hours. It is easy to convert decimalised hours into hours and minutes, helping you understand how much you should be paid.

How to convert decimalised hours into hours and minutes

  1. Separate the whole number from the decimal: The whole number represents the hours, and the decimal represents the fraction of the hour.

  2. Convert the decimal to minutes: Multiply the decimal part by 60 (since there are 60 minutes in an hour).

For example, Anna, the waiting staff, is scheduled for a 7.75-hour shift on Monday. The whole number 7 represents the hours, and the decimal part, 0.75, can be multiplied by 60 to convert it into 45 minutes. Therefore, 7.75 hours is equivalent to 7 hours and 45 minutes.

Decimal: 7.75 hours

  • Hours: 7

  • Minutes: 0.75 × 60 = 45
Result: 7 hours and 45 minutes
