Since the beginning of Trine our investors have always been our main focus. We constantly ask ourselves, ‘What can we do to improve our investment offer for our investors?’

Why is Trine providing Investment Protection?

One key factor we identified early on was to work actively with finding ways to reduce risks. Because there are risks, not only because it's solar energy in emerging markets but simply because that is the nature of investments. They come with big potential but also risks.

A lower risk is not only about making sure money is not lost but also opening up these kind of investment opportunities for a larger group of people. This will inevitably channel more finance from traditional sectors into a green, sustainable one: namely off-grid solar.

How does the Investment Protection work?

The investment protection provided by the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) in collaboration with Trine protects initial investments made through Trine’s site. It means that in case of default from a solar company you as an investor are guaranteed to get back at least some of the amount you originally invested. It is a pilot project we're doing which means that not all our loans on the platform will be covered by it. If you want to know if the campaign you plan to invest in is covered by the Investment Protection you should look at the specific campaign page to see if that is the case. We will always state on each campaign page if it's covered by Investment Protection or not.

We've written a blog post where we share our thoughts on this huge milestone. Earlier this year Svenska Dagbladet interviewed Carin Jämtin, Director General of Sida, about the collaboration.

If you want to know more about the collaboration between Sida and Trine we've also put together a folder with more information. There you can also find the Guarantee Agreement that is the legal contract for this collaboration.

If you have feedback or ideas to us - don't hesitate to reach out!
