A trip is where you plan a client's travel from start to finish. Creating one sets up the workspace, generates a default proposal, and lets you add the travelers who'll be part of the journey.
Create a Trip
To create a trip:
Go to the Trips tab in the left navigation. You'll see the list of all trips, or an empty state if you haven't created any yet.
Click + Create Trip in the top right. The Create Trip modal opens.
Enter a Trip Name. This appears on the trip page and on client-facing materials.
Select a Trip Type:
Regular Trip - for individual client trips.
Group Trip - for trips managed as a group, with access to specialized features such as subtrips, inventory management, and landing pages.
Select a Trip Status. Most trips start as Draft while you're still building them. See Trips Overview for the full list of statuses and what each one means.
Set the Trip Duration. You have two options:
Specific dates - pick a Start Date and End Date.
Number of days - check Add Dates Later. The date fields are replaced with a Number of Days field where you can enter any whole number (for example, 6 or 7 days). You can switch back to specific dates anytime by unchecking the box.
Add More Details (Optional)
Click Add more details to expand additional fields. Each of these is optional and can also be added or changed later from the trip page.
Cover Image - Upload an image that appears at the top of the trip page. You can also add or change it later from the Settings button on the trip page.
Trip Description - A free-text summary of the trip for your reference. This shows up on the Overview tab.
Travelers - Search for and select one or more travelers from your existing contacts.
Travelers must already exist in TripLoft Contacts. If the person you want to add isn't there yet, create them as a contact first, then return to the trip to add them. You can also add or adjust travelers from the trip page later.
When you're done, click Save. You'll land on the Overview tab of the new trip, ready to start adding details, building proposals, and sending it to your client.
Edit a Trip After Creating It
Everything you set when creating a trip can be changed later from the same place. On the trip page, click Settings in the top right to open the Edit Trip dialog.
From here you can update the Trip Name and Trip Status, then click Show additional details to also edit the Travelers, Trip Description, and Trip Cover image. The cover can be uploaded from your device or chosen from the built-in Pixabay image search.
This is how you change a trip's status as it moves through its lifecycle - for example, from Draft to Booked once everything is confirmed. See Trips Overview for what each status means.
Click Save to apply your changes, or Cancel to close without saving.
How Travelers Work
A trip can have one Primary traveler and any number of additional travelers. The Primary tag marks the main point of contact for the trip - but all travelers, regardless of type, can perform any client-side action the trip requires, such as approving proposals or authorizing payments.
The Default Proposal
When you save a new trip, TripLoft automatically creates a default proposal for you to start building. The default proposal matches the trip's duration:
If you set specific dates, the proposal spans those dates with one section per day.
If you set a number of days, the proposal has that many day-sections without fixed calendar dates.
Every default proposal also includes a Trip Details section at the top, where you can add generic information that applies to the whole trip. You can edit the default proposal directly (see Build a Basic Proposal), or build additional proposals alongside it to give your client multiple options (see Add and Manage Proposal Options).
Conclusion
Creating a trip sets up everything you need to start planning in one place - a workspace, a default proposal, and the travelers involved. From here, you can build out proposals, manage bookings and payments, and share the trip with your client.
