How to use the trumpet Video Widget

A guide on how to use the Video Widget and key functionalities

Written by Bel Gernale

The trumpet Video Widget lets you record, customise, and share videos directly inside trumpet, no external tools required.

Use video to share async updates, walkthroughs, demos, and deal context without breaking your flow.

What is the trumpet Video Widget?

The Trumpet Video Widget is a native video recording and playback experience inside trumpet.

With it, you can:

  • Record screen, camera, or both

  • Make lightweight edits without leaving trumpet

  • Customise the look and feel to match your brand

  • Manage all videos from the Content Library

Videos are added to pods using the “trumpet video” widget and are stored centrally for easy reuse.

How to add a video to a pod or template

  1. Open a pod or template

  2. Add a new widget

  3. Select trumpet video

  4. Record a new video or choose one from your Content Library

Once added, the video will appear as a branded, embedded player inside the pod.

Recording options

When recording a video, you can choose exactly how you want to present:

Recording modes

  • Screen + camera

  • Screen only

  • Camera only

Audio & device controls

  • Select your camera and microphone

  • Option to disable microphone

  • Live preview before recording so you can check framing and sound

Countdown settings

  • Configure an advanced countdown timer before recording starts, giving you time to prepare

Pause, resume, and stay smooth

  • Pause and resume — pause a recording at any point (for example, if someone knocks on the door) and pick up right where you left off.

  • Smooth in the background — recordings stay smooth at 30fps even if you switch to another browser tab mid-recording.

  • Your face bubble stays in the video — in Screen & Camera mode, your face bubble is built directly into the recording, so it stays in your chosen corner for the whole video, including when you share a single window. The on-page preview bubble hides once recording starts, so you’re always in the final video.

Your recorder settings are remembered

The recorder opens with your last-used setup — recording mode, mic on/off, mic and camera selection, background/blur, frame colour, and bubble position. These are saved to your profile, so they follow you across browsers. If a saved device isn’t connected, trumpet falls back to the system default.

Visual customisation

Make your videos look on-brand and polished:

  • Background options for camera recordings:

    • Blur

    • Custom image

  • Custom frames and colours to match your branding

  • Adjustable camera position during screen recordings

These settings help your videos feel consistent with the rest of your trumpet experience.

Processing & playback

After recording, videos are automatically processed to ensure smooth playback across devices.

Each video includes:

  • An auto-generated thumbnail

  • An animated preview clip (GIF-style)

  • A branded video player with configurable:

    • Theme

    • Text colour

    • Accent colour

Editing & managing videos

All videos are stored and managed in the Content Library, where you can:

Edit video details

  • Rename a video (updates everywhere it’s used)

  • Set or change the thumbnail

  • Select a custom preview clip (up to 5 seconds)

Trimming and cutting

The video editor lets you cut sections from the middle of a video, not just trim the start and end. Your original video is always preserved as a new version is created.

  • Add a cut — position the playhead on the timeline and click Add Cut to mark a section for removal. Add as many cuts as you need.

  • Resize a cut — drag the handles on either side of a cut to fine-tune exactly what gets removed.

  • Remove a cut — click the × on any cut.

  • Live preview — playback skips over cut sections, so you can preview the final result before saving.

  • Save — saving stitches the kept segments into a single new video, with audio.

Manage video versions

  • Replace an existing video

  • Re-record a video

  • Delete videos you no longer need

Control access

  • Disable video downloading if required

Video transcription

Trumpet automatically generates transcripts for your videos to improve accessibility and navigation.

You can:

  • View a full transcript

  • Click timestamps to jump to specific moments

  • Show or hide the transcript depending on your use case

Where your videos live

  • All videos are saved in the Content Library

  • Videos can be reused across multiple pods

  • Updates to a video (like renaming or replacing) are reflected everywhere it’s used
