Adding a User to a Project

How to give someone access to a project, whether they already have a Trunk Tools account or are brand-new.

Adding a User to a Project

This article shows how to give someone access to a project from the Project access page. You can add people who already have a Trunk Tools account, or invite someone brand-new. Once a person has access to a project, they can use that project's Q&A agent.

Note: The Project access page is turned on per account by the Trunk Tools team. If you don't see it in your left nav, a Business Admin can add people from Business settings instead — see Adding a New User to Trunk Tools.

Who Can Do This

  • ✅ Business Admin — can add or invite people on any project.

  • ✅ Project Manager — can add existing users and invite new people on their own projects.

  • — Project Member — cannot manage project access.

How to Add a User to a Project

Step 1: Open Project Access

In the left nav, under Project, click Project access.

Step 2: Open the Users Tab

The Project access page has two tabs: Users and Collaborators. Open the Users tab to see everyone who currently has access to the project. (To add external people such as owners or subcontractors, see Collaborators & Document Permissions.)

Step 3: Click Add User

Click the Add user button.

Step 4: Find or Invite People

The window has two tabs:

  • Find — for people who already have a Trunk Tools account. Type in the Search by name or email address box and select each person. Selected people appear as chips in the search box.

  • Invite — for someone brand-new. Enter their email address to send them an invitation.

Step 5: Set Role, Tools and Document Access

In the same window, choose:

  • Role — the person's project role (Manager or Member).

  • Add to tools — which tools (agents) on this project the person can use.

  • Document access — how much of the project's documents they can search. See Collaborators & Document Permissions.

Note: Adding someone to a tool shows them that tool's output, even if their document access is Limited.

Step 6: Save

Click Add user to project (or Add N users to project if you selected more than one person). The person will see the project the next time they sign in.
