With the Truss Desktop App, you can send returns / files straight from your computer to Truss. Here’s how:

Step 1. Install the Truss Desktop App

(PC only—Mac users, we still love you! 😢)

Download the Truss Desktop App by clicking the button below:

⚠️ Administrator Privileges Required: When installing the Desktop App, you must right-click on the .exe and click "Run as administrator"

Step 2. Create a Shortcut to the Print-to-Truss Folder

This folder is hidden, but you can find it by following these steps:

1. Open File Explorer

2. Copy and paste this address into the address bar:

C:\Users\MartyMcFly\AppData\Roaming\Truss

(Replace Marty McFly with your ACTUAL Windows login user name)

3. Right Click on the "print-to-truss" folder > Create a shortcut on your desktop for easy access.

Step 3. Open the Truss Desktop App

⚠️ Important: The Truss app must be running for delivery to work! Once you've installed, here's a tutorial video on how to use the Truss Desktop App features.

Step 4. Print to File

1. In your tax software, select the return you want to print.

2. Choose “Print to File” instead of selecting a printer.

3. Set the file destination as your print-to-truss shortcut.

Step 5. Done! Your Return is in Truss!

You'll see the returns / files appear in the Truss Drive staging area.

You can then select what you'd like to do with the file.

Troubleshooting the Truss Desktop App if files do not print to Truss as expected

If you send files to Truss and the files don't show up, ensure the Truss Desktop App has permissions set in the Windows Defender Firewall.

1) In Windows, search for Windows Defender Firewall or find the icon in Windows control panel.

2) Click "Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall

3) Select "Change settings" in the upper right

4) Select "Allow another app in the lower right

5) Select "Browse" to find the Truss app. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Truss\ and choose Truss.exe

6) Once Truss Desktop App is selected, click "Add"

7) Ensure check boxes for both Private and Public networks are selected and click "OK"

Try sending another file over to Truss. If you continue having trouble receiving files you send to the Truss Desktop App, please send support a chat using the in app chat feature.
