How To Add Linked Unit Offers (Parent/Child Relationships)

The Linked Unit Offers section allows you to create a Parent/Child hierarchy to group related Unit Offers together under a single structure.

Written by Ash Jayakumar

A Parent Unit Offer acts as the main Unit Offer in the hierarchy. A Child Unit Offer is linked to a Parent Unit Offer and sits beneath it.

The hierarchy is primarily used for organisation and reporting. It allows related Unit Offers to be grouped together while still maintaining their individual settings and enrolments.

When a Parent/Child relationship is established, the system can:

  • Group related Unit Offers together for easier management.

  • Display linked Unit Offers in a structured hierarchy.

  • Associate learner enrolments or activities across related Unit Offers where applicable.

A Unit Offer can have one of the following roles:

  • Not Linked: The Unit Offer is not part of a hierarchy.

  • Parent: The Unit Offer has one or more Child Unit Offers linked to it.

  • Child: The Unit Offer is linked to a Parent Unit Offer.

Rules

  • A Unit Offer can be either a Parent or a Child, but not both.

  • A Unit Offer cannot be linked to itself.

  • Circular relationships are not supported (for example, Unit A cannot be the Parent of Unit B if Unit B is already the Parent of Unit A).

Before you start: Please ensure you have completed Step 1: Getting started with tuple - initial setup and Added Unit Offers

1. Navigate to the relevant Unit Offer

  1. Navigate to Offers > Unit Offers

  2. Search for the relevant Unit Offer

  3. Click on the Unit Offer code to take you to the Selected Unit Offer > Details page.

2. Add Parent/Child Unit Offers

In the Linked Unit Offers Section

  1. Click Edit

  2. Click either Link to a Parent Unit Offer or Link to a Child Unit Offer.

Note: A Unit Offer can only be a Parent or a Child, not both. Once a Parent Unit Offer is linked, the option to add Child Unit Offers is disabled. Likewise, once a Child Unit Offer is linked, the option to add a Parent Unit Offer is disabled.

  3. Search for the Unit Offer(s) you want to link.

  4. Select the required Unit Offer(s), then click Save.

Common Use Case

NZQA and SDR Reporting (NZ Only)

For NZQA and SDR reporting, an SDR Module can be configured as the Parent Unit Offer, with the related Unit Standards linked as Child Unit Offers.

Example:

  • Parent Unit Offer: SDR Module

  • Child Unit Offers: Unit Standards

Important: Review the Compliance and Reporting section to ensure all SDR and NZQA reporting information is recorded correctly.

All done? Great work! You can now move on to: add and enrol learners.
