What is Twala ID?

Twala ID is a companion mobile app for user identity verification and also serves as an additional security layer. Twala ID and ID verification are optional, it is recommended for signing documents that need a higher level of security e.g. documents that are required by law to be in writing or in original form.

Identity verification is done through the Twala ID by asking signers to send a copy of their government-issued ID and a selfie coupled with a liveness test powered by artificial intelligence (AI). Twala also uses facial recognition technology and AI to match the photo in the government-issued ID against the submitted selfie.

Twala ID is a decentralized app that holds the signer's private cryptographic keys that can be used as multi-factor authentication or MFA for secured login (passwordless authentication) and secured signing of documents via scanning a QR code or via push notification.

Is Twala eSignature legally binding?

Yes, Twala is compliant with the Philippines’ E-Commerce Act and the Supreme Court’s Rules on Electronic Evidence. Twala is also legally accepted in other jurisdictions such as the US, EU, ASEAN, and many more.

Do my customers need to pay in order to sign my document?

No, your signers can create their Twala account for free and send 5 free documents per month. It is always free for your signers to sign documents.

What is a sender?

A sender is someone who sends documents and requests for signature. We bill for the number of senders and not the number of signers.

How does Twala verify the identities of signers?

Twala has multiple levels of signatory verification. Twala verifies the signatory’s email, mobile number, and name via an artificial intelligence-enabled ID verification process where we ask for a government-issued ID and a selfie.

Is Twala secured?

Twala uses multiple levels of user authentication and all communication within the app are protected by Transport Layer Security (TLS). All data is stored in SOC 1 Type II, SOC 2 Type I, and ISO 27001 certified data centers. All documents are stored and encrypted at rest using AES 256-bit encryption.

Twala also supports passwordless authentication/login as well as secure document signing by scanning a QR code or via a push notification. This is made possible by Twala’s blockchain-powered digital ID.

What is an Audit Trail?

An audit trail is a page attached to your document that contains a comprehensive log of all the transactions and information related to the document. All information and transaction logs are recorded in the blockchain to secure the integrity of your document - making it tamper-proof and can be used as evidence in any legal proceeding. The audit trail includes the following information:

  • Name of the document

  • Name, email, mobile number, government-issued ID, and Twala digital ID of the document author

  • Name, email, mobile number, government-issued ID, and Twala digital ID of all the signers

  • All the transactions of the document from preparation, viewing, signing, and completion of the document

  • IP addresses of the signers

  • Digital timestamp of all transactions

  • QR code for document verification
