Welcome to Twala! This guide will walk you through the step-by-step process of preparing and signing documents with multiple signatories — whether you're a new user or a business client.
With Twala, you can securely sign digital documents with multiple participants, ensuring every signature is legally binding and recorded on the blockchain.

Step 1: Upload Your Document
1. Go to your Twala Dashboard.
2. Click on the "Prepare Document" button.
3. Upload the file you want to sign. Twala supports the following file formats:
PDF
Word (.docx)
JPEG
PNG
Maximum file size: 50MB (For larger files, contact our sales team for custom or enterprise plans).

Step 2: Add Signatories
1. If you need to sign the document yourself, click on "Include me" to add yourself as a signatory.
2. Click "Add another participant" to enter the name and email address of each additional signer.
Maximum of 50 signatories per document (Can be increased for custom/enterprise plans).

Step 3: Add a Message (Optional)
Write a personalized message that will be included in the email invitation for all signatories. This message can provide instructions or context about the document.

Step 4: Add CC Recipients (Optional)
If someone needs to receive a copy of the signed document without signing, add their name and email under the "Who needs to participate in this document” Section
You can add up to 50 CC recipients per document.
Click "Add CC recipient" to include multiple recipients or "Maybe next time" if no CC recipients are needed.

Step 5: Choose Signing Method
Twala offers three levels of document security:
Via Email Link – Signers can sign documents without creating a Twala account (Recommended for fast transactions).
Via Twala Sign – Only Twala account holders can sign.
Via Twala ID – The highest level of security, requiring both a Twala account and a verified Twala ID with linked government-issued identification.

Step 6: Advanced Settings (Optional)
Click "Advanced Settings" to customize your document security preferences:
Audit Trail – Include detailed logs of who accessed and signed the document.
Document ID – Display a unique Universal Document ID (UDID) on all pages.
Show Author – Display the name of the document preparer.
Mobile Number – Show the last four digits of the signatory's verified mobile number.
ID Details – Display verified government-issued ID details for Twala ID holders.

Step 7: Prepare Signature Fields
1. After uploading your document, assign fields for each signatory.
2. Select the signatory's name from the dropdown list.
3. Drag and drop the following standard fields onto the document:

Text Field
Checkbox
Twala also supports auto-filled fields like:
Date Signed
Name
Email
Signatory’s Initials
Click Save once you're done setting all fields.

Step 8: Sign the Document
If you're a signatory yourself, fill out your assigned fields and click the "SIGN HERE" button.
You can sign the document in three ways:
Draw – Use your mouse, touchpad, or smartphone screen.
Type – Type your name as your electronic signature.
Upload – Upload an image of your signature (Recommended format: Transparent PNG).

How to Create a Transparent Signature Image
Sign your name on clean white paper using a black pen.
Take a clear photo of your signature.
Visit remove.bg to remove the background and download the transparent version.
Upload the image to your Twala account.

Step 9: Finalize the Document
After clicking Save, Twala will automatically send email invitations to all signatories.
Once all participants sign the document, Twala will:
Finalize the document
Record it on the blockchain
Send a final signed copy to all signatories and CC recipients
Store the signed document in the Documents section of your Twala Dashboard
