Underrepresented Founder Support: Empowering Women- and Minority-Owned Businesses
At Twirl, we believe in supporting founders from underrepresented groups to help level the playing field and create more opportunities. Women- and minority-owned businesses often face challenges that make it harder to grow and scale, especially when it comes to securing funding and resources. Our Underrepresented Founder Initiative is designed to ease some of these financial burdens and helping them thrive with the power of content.
Eligible businesses receive a 10% discount on all purchases made within the first year, to lighten the load of content marketing costs, even just a little.
Who Qualifies?
This initiative is available to businesses that meet the following criteria:
At least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by women or individuals from underrepresented minority groups.*
Generate no more than £5 million in annual revenue, ensuring the focus is on small and medium-sized businesses.
*What Do We Mean by Underrepresented Groups?
Underrepresented groups are communities that have historically faced disadvantages or barriers to opportunities, particularly in business and entrepreneurship. These include:
Women-Led Businesses: Companies where women are the majority owners or in key leadership roles.
Minority-Owned Enterprises: Businesses owned by individuals from racial or ethnic groups that are statistically underrepresented in business, such as Black, Asian, Hispanic/Latino, Indigenous, and others.
Diverse Founders: Founders from the LGBTQIA+ community or individuals with disabilities.
Immigrant and Refugee Entrepreneurs: Founders who have overcome unique challenges as first-generation immigrants or refugees.
Why Are We Doing This?
The numbers highlight the need for support:
Less than 3% of venture capital funding goes to women-owned businesses.
Women- and minority-owned businesses often start with 50% less capital than other businesses, making it harder to compete.
Women founders often juggle the demands of caregiving and running a business. While many achieve incredible success, balancing these responsibilities can naturally limit the pace of growth or scaling compared to others.
This initiative aims to ease some of these challenges, even in small ways, by reducing financial barriers related to content marketing.
